Event Article: 2007 ICAST Lures Coverage

ICAST Coverage Day 4 (Lures) - Swimbaits Reign Supreme (continued)

Lucky Craft: Lucky Craft has finally enters the premium swimbait market with their Real California Premium. This lure represents the pinnacle of Lucky Craft’s current engineering with a very realistic lazy-s swimming action. Lucky Craft spent a tremendous amount of time focusing on eye placement, fin position and body action.

The California Premium series is what Lucky Craft fans have been waiting for

The weighting system was intricately designed to match the weight of a live fish. There are two versions of this bait, a 4 inch, 7/8 ounce (110 mm) and a 7 7/8 inch, 1 5/8 ounce (200mm), which will retail for approximately $30 and $50 respectively. Perhaps even more important, is this bait will be available in Lucky Craft’s exclusive, real skin, finish in each size for an additional $10.

The Slender Shad features a traditional crankbait bill and is rated to a 9 foot diving depth

Lucky Craft Slim Shad D-9: New for their Shad Series is the Slim Shad D-9. Maiko Kikuchi, National Sales and Promotions Manager at Lucky Craft tells us this bait, unlike the Bevy Shad is considered a crankbait. It is most effective in clear waters and in fact, was one of Skeete Reese’s go to baits during this past year’s Bassmasters event at Clearlake, California. There are 8 initial colors and shipping of the bait to at least one major dealer has already begun.

Gary Loomis Lures: So what’s a rod designer and manufacturer do on his spare time? Fish you say? How about partner with a fly tying company like Targus Fly and Feathers, Inc. and develop a hybrid series of big fish jigs and spinnerbaits tied with natural animal hair and feathers and realistic head designs?

The GlimmerMinnow Spinnerbait from Gary Loomis Lures

The blades of the GlimmerMinnow are stamped with the all too familiar Gary Loomis name

This was what we found in the Gary Loomis Lures booth and the results look promising. The baits are hand made in the Targus factories in Thailand and range in price from approximately $6.00 for the double willow leaf GlimmerMinnow spinnerbait to about $2.25 for their football head jig.
