Rod Review

Bait Finesse for Days with Major Craft (continued)

Power: Back to my impression of this stick having a softer taper than for what it is rated, when you hook a fish, the DYC-68L/BF bends more through the blank than I'd prefer. Granted, I did not have an issue with hook up ratios in my vertical bait presentations, so you can fish these techniques very successfully with this stick. It just feels more like a stick for moving baits to me than it does soft plastics.

Fig 1 : The chart above illustrates the deflection characteristics of our Major Craft Days DYC-68L/BF BaitFinesse against the historical averages of similarly powered rods we've tested over the past twenty plus years

Otherwise, it's a light powered stick, so you're not going to be muscling fish with it no matter what technique you choose to employ. With light line fishing, it's all about keeping the pressure on and trusting your drag.

The DYC-68L/BF tests like a fast tapered rod, but fishes more moderate

Design & Ergonomics: Weighing in at only three and a half ounces (3.5oz) and with very good balance, the DYC-68L/BF is an exceedingly comfortable - and fun - stick to fish. Matched with the very svelte Zenon LTX BFS8, it's quite frankly, a difficult combo to set down. The stick has just enough design flare to make it interesting to look at and the fact it comes with Fuji SiC guides lets you experience the feel of high end without the price point.

The subtle shape of the grip components add just that tiny extra bit of interest

Price & Applications: Speaking of price point, the DYC-68L/BF retails for just under $200 at $193.99. Given its level of components and the very clean nature of its build, this stick is the definition of a good value. It's suitable for both vertical and horizontal bait techniques and a super solid choice if you're looking for new, light powered rod to fuel your BFS obsession.

The Days rod may not be the fanciest rod but it features a very clean overall build and feels both light and balanced

Pluses and Minuses:

Plus

Minus
+ Fuji SS/SiC Guides - No bait keeper
+ Very light AND well balanced
+ Super clean build
+ A little JDM flare without the price

Conclusion: JDM companies like Major Craft have been at the BFS game for over twenty years. Given the fishing pressures in Japan, it's simply a way of fishing life and it shows in the fishability of their BFS tackle. The DYC-68L/BF has one distinct advantage over most of its JDM brethren - its exceedingly affordable yet it accomplishes this without sacrificing components.

Major Craft's Days DYC-68L/BF is a very smart, capable and affordable build making it a good choice for those looking for a quality BFS rod that won't break the bank

Sure, Fuji's SS/SiC guides are not as light as their Ti/SiC or Ti/Torzite, but they are better and lighter than their lower end guides, and with BFS, every ounce and gram counts simply for the fact, the lighter a rod is, the more sensitive it will be. Major Craft's Days DYC-68L/BF is a very smart, capable and affordable build.
