Event Article: 2009 ISE Sacramento

Custom lures, Pros, and more at the 2009 International Sportsmen's Expo Sacramento (continued)

Galvan: The ISE show isn't just about bass tackle and Galvan Fly Reels was on hand to showcase their new modern looking "Spoke" larger arbor reels. These attractive reels are actually lighter than the company's already wispy Torque series and are their lightest reel to date. The distinctive colored spokes really make these fly reels stand out and the reels are aggressively ported to the maximum for an improved strength to weight ratio. These 100% USA made reels are fully machined from 6061 bar stock aluminum and available in black, blue, green pr clear (silver) spoke choices and in weights from 2-8wt.

The Spoke features a similar drag as the Torque and is designed for ultra smooth compression. Spools are interchangeable and Spoke reels will retail for $295 to $375 dollars and spare spools will cost $135-$176 dollars depending on size.

Gone Fishin' Marine and Sticky Graphics: We caught up with Corey Fenske (remember the Owner Beast) at the Gone Fishin' Marine booth who was representing his own company "Sticky Graphics" which wraps boats for many tournament professionals.  Corey was on the show floor wrapping a Nitro right in front of attendees. The process is a painstaking one and requires a lot of careful attention and work with a heat gun to ensure no bubbling and a perfect application. Corey showed us the label material which bonds to just about any surface but can be removed without any damage to the surface of the boat or truck later down the road. It takes about 8 hours to wrap a boat once the materials have been prepped and it costs 2500 dollars per boat. A boat being wrapped isn't something you see everyday and there were many onlookers checking out Corey at work.

The material reacts to heat and becomes pliable and able to conform to any surface... even fingers

Sticky Graphics does everything from vehicle and boat wraps to signage and stickers

The Pros gang up on Gary for some fun

Conclusion: With so much gloom and doom in the news regarding the economy we were not sure what to expect at this year's Sacramento ISE show, but the combination of the quality venue, professional anglers, and new tackle was enough to draw strong crowds from anglers looking for the latest and greatest this season. We were happy to see the aisles bustling with anglers and outdoorsmen and while the majority of big product introductions will come at ICAST in Orlando later this year this particular show is a popular platform for many swimbait and lure manufacturers to show just how creative they can be. As we left the show we could only smile as we could hear the professional anglers including Kent Brown, Bub Tosh, Jimmy Reese, and Greg Gutierrez giving Gary Dobyns a hard time on the PA system. As we walked out the door we heard Gary remark "I thought this was a going to be a roundtable, not a rip on Gary session." That's what the ISE and fishing is all about... having a good time.
