Okuma Goes Completely Psycho on their Latest Bass Sticks

Date: 7/9/20

Manufacturer: Okuma

Introduction: It isn't just reels this year for Okuma and the company will be introducing a new line of high-performance bass rods branded the Psycho Stick series. These rods will helm Okuma's bass rod lineup this season, offering anglers styling and performance that stands apart from the rest of the company's freshwater rod offering.

Okuma's new high end rods, the Psycho Stick Series, are built on 46-ton low resin carbon blanks with Okuma's Ultimate Matrix Reinforcement (UMR) Technology that gives the rods a 300% increase in lifting capability and the ability to bend 360 degrees

Psycho build? It all starts with a blank constructed with light and responsive 46-ton, low resin carbon rod blanks each displaying a unique pattern design from butt to tip. They are then built with Okuma’s UMR: Ultimate Matrix Reinforcement technology which strengthens the outer walls of the blank giving the rod the reinforcement where it is needed most, giving the rods a more lifting power while remaining light and flexible.

“The Psycho Stick series is something that we have been working on and refining for several years,” states John Bretza, Product Development Manager.  “As this will be our flagship bass rod this season, we really wanted to dial it in and get the actions exactly correct, and I feel we accomplished that.”

A look at the casting and spinning SeaGuide carbon reel seats which come together to form the entire ergonomic grip

There will be a total of seven models in the Psycho lineup. Five casting models and two spinning models ranging from 7-foot 2-inches to 7-foot 5-inches with actions ranging from Medium Light all the way up to Heavy.

The Psycho Series rods feature a split grip design that provides a clear view of all the carbon goodness in these rods. EVA and cork composite rear grips complete the look and provide a comfortable platform for casting or when the rod is tucked during retrieves

Okuma drew from multiple vendors to spec the hardware for the Psycho starting with Fuji KW-concept angled guide frames that help reduce line twist and tangles outfitted with proven Fuji Sic guide inserts with deep pressed frames to securely hold everything in place.

One of the most aggressively styled elements on the Psycho rods are the SeaGuide injected carbon reel seats which are designed to be comfortable and sensitive in your hand for all day casting and palming comfort.

The Psycho's double locking carbon hood looks sick and is designed to keep reels securely planted at all times

The double locking screw down carbon hood design keeps your reel locked tight in place, and a SeaGuide stainless steel hook keeper is provided to keep baits secure when on the move. The Psycho Stick Bass Rods will be available late this year at a retail price of $219.99 to $239.99, and for ultimate peace of mind they come backed by a limited lifetime warranty.
