Set Hard with PowerPro Zero Impact Microfilament Braided Line

Date: 7/10/13
Location: Las Vegas, NV
Admission: Buyers and Press

Introduction: PowerPro introduced a new line at this year’s show called Zero-Impact which is a microfilament braided line with a unique provision for helping anglers to set the hook with passion. Designed for both fresh and saltwater applications this new superline is designed to make the braid stronger in the “termination zones.”

Pro Angler Cody Meyer shows us the new innovative PowerPro Zero-Impact microfilament braided line

Termination zones? What the heck is that? This is the section of line which ends up getting tied to the bait. On this line this section is specially indicated. Ted Sakai, PowerPro Product Manager explained “The 32-inch ‘Termination Zone’ is a clearly identifiable black section after every 20-foot section,” explains Ted Sakai, PowerPro product manager. “Normally any braided line on the market loses 30- to 50-percent of its strength you make a knot. It’s this black section where you tie on your lure, swivel or leader so this impact area is not only stronger, but also provides typically 100-percent knot strength.”

The new line is ready for retail and will be available in August

This line is ideal for applications where anglers like to tighten down the drag and set the hook both hard and fast. Ideal applications for this line include flipping, pitching, frogging and punching. In saltwater applications this line is good for fishing pencil baits for hard hitting tuna and the added knot strength when tied to a leader is designed to provide anglers with an extra edge over normal multi-line connections.

On the spool you can see the alternating sections

Zero Impact will be available in yellow and green

This innovation is also great for spinning reel anglers that want superior knot strength but do not have the capacity to spool up thicker braided lines. With this line anglers using the 30lb version can benefit from 50lb knot strength for example. As an added benefit the transition also acts as a visual strike indicator.

Konrad, head of PowerPro demonstrated the different knot strengths of each section live for us at the show. Time to get this line back to TT HQ and put it to the test on the "Machine"

The new PowerPro Zero-Impact will be available in August in 20- to 100-pound test strengths - each in 150-, 300- and 500-yards spools - and in both hi-vis yellow and aqua green colors. The line will retail from $25.99 for 150 yard spools to $79.99 for 500 yard spools. This line is manufactured right here in the U.S. in the company’s Grand Junction, Colorado facility. If you like to set your line hard this new line is definitely something you should check out. The PowerPro Zero Impact was well received at the show and in another big win for the Shimano team this line took home Best of Show in the Line category.
