ICAST 2011 : Dobyns Rods Goes Micro & Army

Introduction: It's been a quiet couple of past ICAST shows for the camp at Dobyns Rods so we were curious to see if they had anything new for the coming 2012 season. Always in good spirits, Gary Dobyns himself was there to take us through their new sticks.

Things have been relatively quiet in the Dobyns camp - until this year.

Savvy Micro: Dobyns joins the micro-madness that has continued from the past two years shows by introducing a micro-guide enabled version of his popular Savvy series. There will be a total of 13 rods in this lineup including four spinning, and nine casting models.

The Savvy Series Micros will retail for the same amount as the standard Savvy.

But of course, they will feature smaller guides.

Army Bass Anglers (ABA) Rods: Earlier this year, Dobyns Rods announced a multi-year sponsorship of Army Bass Anglers (ABA). In demonstration of that pledge, Dobyns developed a series of rods with an Army-like camo motif. Response has been so positive, he now plans on bringing the rods in as permanent fixture.

But the real buzz is about the new ABA sticks.

Dobyns originally planned these rods just for the Army Bass Anglers.

There will be six to eight rods in the lineup at the onset with more likely to follow. The series is so new and the plan to bring them in as a regular stock item so recent, that Dobyns had no material printed or even written down regarding the lineup.

But response at the show was so great, he's decided to make a regular lineup out of them.

We managed to coax some information out of him and confirm at least six of the planned eight rods. Price points will be from $149 - $169 and the first deployment of ABA rods will occur in late August or early September. Reinforcements have been summoned but availability of those forces are, as of yet, uncertain.
