An UltraFast Spincast Reel from Zebco/Quantum
||Buyers & Press Only
With recent, exciting introductions like the EXO and Smoke reels, we never know quite what to expect at Quantum from year to year. This year we were greeted by none other than KVD himself who took the time to walk us through what the company has planned for 2017.
The Smoke HD is a higher capacity, more stout version of the original.
It features a much deeper spool for greater line capacity.
Quantum takes their popular Smoke low profile baitcaster and introduces yet another variation - the Smoke HD. This variant comes with an aluminum frame and sideplate protected with Saltguard 2.0, a deeper spool (12/180 capacity), a longer 95mm handle with oversized knobs, yet maintains its compact size. Quantum lists this reel as perfect for A-rigs, deep cranking and inshore applications. It will be available in a 5.3:1, 6.6:1, and 7.3:1 gear ratio with an MSRP of $199.
There will be three different retrieve ratios.
Vapor PT is Quantum's new $149.99 price point reel.
Vapor PT: Vapor takes the place of Energy in Quantum's lineup and is presented as a feature packed low profile baitcaster at a very affordable price. The Vapor PT sports 11 bearings, a 90mm, carbon fiber handle, infinite ACS cast control (externally adjustable centrifugal brakes), and an aluminum main gear all in a package that weighs only 6.7 ounces. It will be available in two retrieve ratios (7.0:1 and 6.3:1) with expected availability beginning in September, 2016. MSRP on the Vapor PT is $149.99.

Throttle Spinning: Quantum introduces their new Reel Engine Technology (RED) with Throttle, a spinning reel with a precisely aligned aluminum unibody for a silky smooth retrieve, superior freeness, and ultra durability. The Throttle spinning reel comes with a 5.3:1 gear ratio, a MaxCast II spool that is braid safe and eleven (11) total bearings. MSRP on the Throttle spinning reel is only $59.
The Throttle is the result of Quantum's new R.E.D.
And by the way, this reel is only $59.
Zebco Bullet: We also spent some time with VP of Marketing at Zebco (Zebco is the parent company of Quantum), Bob Bagby, who was excited to hear we're working on some spincast reel reviews and jumped at the opportunity to introduce us to the new Zebco Bullet, high speed spincaster! That's right, we said high speed. Believe it or not, the Bullet is rated at roughly 27.5 inches of line pick up per turn of the handle. Bob gave us a quick rundown of the reel's features which we can show in the following photos.
The Zebco Bullet is the fastest spincast reel in production.
Sporting a 5.1:1 gear ratio, this reel picks up 29" of line
per turn of the handle.
Aided by a ball bearing line pick up...
... and a ceramic line guide both of which greatly reduce
friction and battle line twist.
Even the handle knobs have an innovative material on them to
aid in comfort and grip.
Could the Bullet change the way we perceive spincast reels?
Big thanks to KVD for taking some time out of his busy ICAST schedule to spend with us.
There's little doubt Quantum is focusing on feature rich product at a reasonable price this year and by all accounts, they're making it happen. The Smoke reel has been a good platform for the manufacturer and it's tested well with us too. The new Vapor and Monster reels hold a lot of promise for the angler who is unable to spend top dollar on every combo. Thanks to KVD and Bob Bagby for giving us a peak into what Quantum has in store for 2017!
