The New Daiwa Steez Gives You Wings

Date: 7/13/16
Location: Orlando, FL
Admission: Buyers & Press Only
Manufacturer: Daiwa
Reviewer: Zander

Introduction: A flagship reel should be refined, over engineered, dare I say it...sexy. The Daiwa Steez Series is all of these things, and over the seasons the Steez reels have been paired with some of the most premium rods on the market to create some of the lightest combos known to bass anglers. So what's in store for the latest generation of Steez reels? T-Wing.

Daiwa's Premium Baitcaster gets the T-Wing

The Steez Gives You Wings: You knew it was bound to happen. With the popularity of the T-Wing System growing it was just a matter of time before the Steez adopted the system. Like the other reels that have come before it the T-Wing System is designed to give reels a longer cast with reduced friction as well as reduce backlashes. The feeling (or lack of resistance) that anglers experience with the T-Wing System is eerie at first but once you get used to it you begin to appreciate just how far and accurate you can be with each and every cast. We imagine a reel as light and refined as the Steez will only compound that sentiment.

The new Steez features sports car good looks with sweeping ergonomic design

The new Steez SV TW reels feature an ergonomic magnesium frame and side cover on the gear side to keep weight down to 5.5oz. and the G1 duralumin SV spool, billed as the next step above A7075 Aluminum) with the air brake system allows anglers to cast even the lightest lures with minimal backlashes.

Red highlights indicate the higher speed 7.1:1 retrieve ratio

The standard Steez reels with the 6.3:1 retrieve ratio feature gold highlights while the "Super High" (SH) speed reels have red highlights to make them instantly distinguishable. All of these reels come with Daiwa's smooth and consistent "Ultimate Tournament Drag" which delivers 11lbs. of pressure. As you might expect these new flagship reels still come with a hefty price tag, and that price of admission is $499.95 for any of the configurations.
