Spooltek Gets More Bass Friendly With a Smaller Size

Introduction:
Spooltek was one of the more interesting companies we visited at last year's ICAST show. Their unique swimbaits, with hooks that break free from the bait when a fish strikes, showed a lot of promise for cross species application. This year, they demonstrate some of that versatility with new size introductions that are sure to get bass fishermen excited.

Introducing Spooltek's new, 4" Fatty!

4" Fatty: Originally offered only in a six and nine inch size, Spooltek showed us their new 4" Fatty bait that is sure to garner a lot of attention from bass fishermen. Available in 12 different colors, this new, bite sized version of the original comes with the same hook release harness as the larger sizes as well as the same replaceable rear tail.

Featuring the same head hardware as its larger siblings.

Including a hook that detaches from the body once a fish is hooked.

We've had limited time on the water with these baits, and can say, the hybrid hard bodied head and soft tail combination make for a bait that really casts well. This new, smaller size should be great for not only casting to target but pitching and flipping to specific spots as well.

Yet remains attached to your line via this wire harness.

The tails, of course, are replaceable.

As mentioned earlier, the new 4" Fatty will be available in 12 different colors, but there are also more, bass specific colors in the works. The bait weighs half an ounce (1/2oz) fully rigged and will retail for $14.99. Extra tails will also be available for $5.99 per pack. Availability is set for August 2015.

The new, 4" Fatty is sure to be a hit amongst bass fishermen.

Conclusion: Downsizing seems to be a popular trend once a company establishes the effectiveness of a certain bait. With Spooltek, this strategy was a no brainer since their product was designed and built with the saltwater, inshore fishermen in mind. But with the popularity of soft bodied swimbaits, it was a natural to extend their line into the bass market. We look forward to the more bass-centric colors they spoke of at the show. In the meantime, that 4" Fatty in a couple of the existing colors ( like Ayu, Electric Ladyfish, and Silver Digger) look good to go right now!
