Introduction:
Freshwater fly fishing is plenty demanding, but when pursuing saltwater species with the “long rod” the demands are even higher. Wind, larger flies, bigger fish, longer casts, and lightning-quick presentations are all part of pursuing sea-going species. Colorado-based Scott fly rod company is no stranger to the salty game, having forged a legendary reputation in the fly fishing industry. This year, they aim to reinvent high-performance saltwater fly rods with a hot new premium series called the Meridian.

The new Meridian rods are Scott's flagship saltwater sticks and took home the overall Best of Show Product Award at ICAST-IFTD this past week

Meridian Fly Rods: Scott constructed this fresh new series using their award-winning ReAct technology so that Meridian rods will be “fastest to the fish.” Instead of making the rods stiffer to increase line speed and power, they took a different route by simply engineering the blanks to recover faster. This allows the rods to crank out long casts yet retain that all-important feel when casting in close—something some saltwater fly rods lack.

Meridian reel seats are flat-black and feature self-indexed slide hoods, deep knurling, a special hard coat, and line ID.

All Meridians sport brand new saltwater-friendly components. On each rod you'll find techie aircraft-grade aluminum reel seats, newly-shaped fighting butt, titanium-framed SiC guides, Recoil nickel-titanium snakes, and flor-grade cork grips.

A look at the Meridian grip....

A really interesting aspect of these rods is the fact that they will come in several different sizes and configurations:

- Five 2-piece models all measuring 8-feet 10-inches in 8,9,10,11, and 12-weight

- One 3-piece bluewater model measuring 8-feet 4-inches in a 15-weight size

- Seven standard 4-piece rods measuring 9-feet in 6,7,8,9,10,11, and 12-weight

- Two specialized 4-piece rods measuring 8-feet 4-inches in 8 and 10-weight

The new Tidal 10-weight is designed with the musky/pike angler in mind.....

….and features an extended lower grip.

New Additions: A few new additions will be joining existing Scott Rod families:

 - 7-foot 6-inch 3-weight Radian

- 9-foot 10-weight Tidal Musky/Pike rod

- 9-foot 6-weight Tidal

Theresa Van Nooten and Wil Flack show off the new Tidal 10-weight.

Conclusion: Meridian fly rods will be available in late July while the new Radian and Tidal rods are available now. We look forward to fishing these awesome rods in the near future while targeting some of our favorite salt and freshwater species. Expect the Meridians to carry an MSRP of $865.00.
