Introduction: Since we visited them at the 2014 IFTD show, it's quite evident that the crew at Scientific Anglers has been hard at work. This year, they had a variety of new items to show us, including....you guessed it.....fly lines....and lots of them! Come with us and check out what they have to offer for their 2016 product lineup!

There was a huge amount of new fly lines being unveiled this year!

Sharkwave Anadro: As the name suggests, this line is geared towards anadromous fish in large rivers. A few key design features include a braided multifilament core, Sharkskin texturing on the tip for better floatation, Mastery Textured running line portion, and welded loops. These 100-foot-long lines come in WF5F to WF9F weights and will run $99.95 each.

Wavelength Lines: Scientific Anglers showed off a new series of lines called the Wavelength Series. These textured lines are said to be similar to the textured Sharkskin lines, but with a softer and smoother surface. This supposedly will increase durability, reduce memory, and be a bit more comfortable to handle. All models sport welded loops and Mastery Textured surfaces. Several new lines will be released within this series:

MPX: An improvement upon the GPX taper, these general-purpose lines are built a half-size heavier and feature braided multifilament cores for use in cold to mild climates. Available in sizes WF3F–WF9F, these 90-foot lines will cost $84.95 each.

Titan: These lines utilize short, powerful tapers for tossing bulky flies. Built on a multifilament core, they measure 90-feet in length and are best suited for mild climates. Sizes span from WF6F to WF11F with an MSRP of $84.95.

Trout: Great for delicate presentations, these lines feature an “all around taper” and are built on braided multifilament cores for use in cold to mild climates. Lines measure 90-feet long in sizes WF3F–WF6F at a price of $84.95.

Nymph/Indicator: This series is weighted a full line size heavier and is adorned with a high-floating orange tip section. Utilizing a braided multifilament core, they are best for cold to mild temps. Lines in this series measure 90-feet-long, and come in WF4F to WF8F weights at a price of $84.95.

Grand Slam: Perfect for flats fishing, these lines come in at almost one line weight heavier in size. A short, stout head turns over flies and loads modern fast-action rods easily, while the Tropic-Core stays user-friendly in hot, sticky conditions. Arriving in 100-foot lengths, they are available in WF6F to WF12F weights for $89.95 a piece.

Tarpon: Made specifically for targeting the silver king, 100-foot-long Wavelength Tarpon lines sport a high-strength Tropic-Core and short head design. Choose from WF10F to WF12F weights for $89.95 each.

But, there was much more than just fly line on tap at this year's show...

Mastery Series: New lines in this series all feature a traditional smooth surface with welded loops on both ends. Various new lines are available within this series:

MPX: Ideal for different situations, these 90-foot lines are built a half-size heavier and boast ST+ slickness additive. The braided multifilament core means they will work best in cold to mild temps. Sizes span WF3F–WF9F at a $74.95 price.

Trout: Built upon a braided multifilament core, these lines sport a taper that's tailor-made for smaller waters and delicate presentations. Weights range from WF2F–WF7F at an MSRP of $74.95. Length is 90 feet.

Anadro: Great for long-distance fishing in big rivers, Anadro lines are built on multifilament cores and tout a high-floating yellow tip. Length is 100-feet, with WF5F to WF9F weights available. MSRP is set at $79.95.

Titan: Best for mild climates, Titan lines are built on multifilament cores and have a short, powerful head that's made to cast beefy bugs. Measuring 90-feet-long, WF6F to WF10F weights are available at a cost of $79.95.

There's newly refreshed tippets.........

Grand Slam: Almost a full line size heavier, Grand Slam lines utilize Tropi-Core technology and short, robust heads to load modern rods and turn over hefty flies. WF6F to WF12F weights are available at a suggested retail of $79.95. All lines are 100-feet-long.

Redfish Warm and Cold: Coming in both warm and coldwater versions, these Redfish-specific fly lines are 100-feet in length, weighted a half-size heavier, and sport an increased running line diameter. Warmwater lines are built with a hard coating and Tropi-Core Technology, while Coldwater lines have a softer coating and braided multifilament core. Weights range from WF7F to WF9F at a price of $79.95.

Bonefish: Measuring 100-feet-long, these lines are designed with an updated taper and long head. The stiff coating and Tropi-Core Technology stays manageable in harsh tropical climates. Sizes run WF5F–WF9F at a cost of $79.95 each.

Tarpon: Mastery Tarpon lines are 100-feet-long and have a short head, high-strength core, and Tropi-Core technology. Sizes WF10F–WF12F priced at $79.95.

Heritage Ultra Presentation: This new line is built on a multifilament core for use in modest climates.  Scientific Anglers based it on a classic taper design and old-school color to work well with all types of rods for close-in, delicate presentations. Length is 85-feet, with weights spanning from WF3F to WF6F at an MSRP of $49.95.

….and various new leaders available.

Thanks to Jason Proctor for walking us through the lineup which includes reels (featured in a separate article)!

Conclusion: That was quite a rundown, wasn't it? Scientific Anglers indeed had a massive rollout of new fly lines this year....but it doesn't stop there. They also completely revamped their tippets and leaders to be stronger and more accurate than ever before. When can you expect all this good stuff to hit the market? Most fly lines will be out by mid-September, while the leaders and tippets will hit stores about January 1st.
