Introduction:
You can have the best $800 fly rod on the market, but it simply won't perform at its full potential without the right line. A quality fly line will not just optimally load the rod, but it will be more user friendly in and out of the water, too. RIO products was back at it again this year and showcased several new items, including something for rods with “old school tapers.”

New tippets are better than ever!

Powerflex Plus Leaders/Tippet: Taking advantage of new advancements, RIO's new leaders and tippets boast 20-percent greater strength while retaining supreme suppleness, knot strength, and diameter. Leaders come in pairs from 0x–7x in 7-feet 6-inch, 9-foot, and 12-foot sizes at a price of $9.95. Powerflex Plus tippets run 0x–7x and carry an MSRP of $9.95 for a 50-yard spool.

LightLine: This line seems like a lot of fun! Designed for rods with soft/slow actions, this supple new line features a taper that's ideal for delicate fishing on small waters. Available in double-taper and weight-forward configurations, RIO's LightLine can be had in 2 to 5-weight sizes with either a brown or ivory color scheme at an MSRP of $74.95.

RIO's new Lightline took home the award for “Best Freshwater Line.”

InTouch Single Hand Spey: Great for single-hand spey and roll casting, these lines effectively load rods in tight casting situations thanks to a rear weight distribution. RIO tells us the line is also great for overhead casting, too. This award-winning line comes in weight-forward 4 to 8-weight sizes with a peach/camo coloration at a retail price of $89.95.

Skagit Trout Max Shooting Head: These 11-foot-long heads load rods quickly and allow for sustained anchor casts. Built upon RIO's low-stretch ConnectCore, these teal/orange heads will sell for $39.95 in sizes from 200–275 grain sizes.

The InTouch line family continues to grow.

InTouch Pike/Musky: RIO meets the needs of pike and musky anglers with this new line that utilizes a short, powerful weight-forward taper that is slightly heavier than AFTMA ratings. Ranging from 8 to 11 weight sizes, expect a price of $84.95.

InTouch Short Head and Long Head Spey Lines: Short-head lines range from 40–50 feet in length and are tailored for loading of shorter spey rods. They are available in 5/6 to 10/11 sizes and are available as an interchangeable tip. MSRP is $89.95. Long-head lines are designed with highly-specialized tapers that allow for great distance and control. Choose from 7/8 up to 10/11-weight sizes at a price of $99.95.

The amount of lines RIO produces is staggering!

InTouch Striper: Taking home the “Best Saltwater Fly Line” award these new 8–11 weight lines are weight-forward and come in full floating, full intermediate, and 30-foot sink tip configurations. These should be perfect for those looking to huck bulky streamers at salty linesiders. Pricing is set at $89.95.

Euro Nymph Leader / Two-Tone Indicator Tippet: Euro nymph leaders and 9-feet in length and made for the demands of competition anglers. Sporting a visible milky-white taper, they are tied directly to 22-inches of two-tone indicator tippet (opaque with 8-inch pink and chartreuse portions) and finished off with a tiny tippet ring for the angler to tie his or her tippet onto. Leaders can be had for $9.95, with the tippets will run $14.95.

Tippet Rings: These strong, lightweight little rings are designed to be the connection between leader and tippet. Not only do they make rigging things like droppers a breeze, but they allow for fast tippet changes and will save entire leaders from snags as well. Both trout and steelhead versions are available. You can grab a pack of 10 with either 25 or 45-pound ratings at an affordable price of $6.95.

RIO's tippets are perfect for a variety of angling scenarios.

Conclusion: RIO seemingly has every facet of fly-fishing covered with their immensely diverse line of fly lines. Their newest products blend new advancements with technical designs to deliver higher performance for a varied range of angling pursuits. When the need for a new fly line arises, don't hesitate to get InTouch with RIO to see what they have to offer.
