Introduction:
Having spent a good deal of their R&D budget on the upper end of their low profile baitcasting market with the EXO, TourMg, and Smoke reels over the last few years, this year, Quantum focused on their more core offerings. Three new introductions highlight this year's lineup starting with a baitcaster priced at $49.95!

This sporty looking reel is only $49.95!

Pulse: The Pulse features lightweight, graphite construction, a 6.6:1 gear ratio, and 5 bearings. It comes standard with a 90 millimeter handle, an aluminum spool, and magnetic cast control system. Also interesting in the Pulse is the fact it comes with a free floating pinion gear design that allows a more free floating spool during the cast. This reel will be available in both right and left hand retrieve models and promises to be a very popular choice for those just getting into the sport. How can you lose for only $49.95?

The Pulse comes with a nice, long 90mm handle.

The Team KVD reels are hard to distinguish from the Tour KVD lineup.

Team KVD: There's arguably, no bigger name in the sport of bass fishing than Kevin VanDam. Quantum leverages his name once again on another value line of reels called Team KVD. These sharp looking little reels will be offered in two gear ratios (6.6:1 & 7.3:1), feature 90mm handles, a magnetic cast control system and 8 bearings. This reel is priced at a surprising $79.95.

These reels are very eye catching.

A look at the lightweight, ported, aluminum spool of the Team KVD.

ICON PT: Quantum's moniker for their more select group of reels is PT, which stands for Performance Tuned. These are the reels that receive a little extra engineering and tuning with their acclaimed PT Bearings and ACS casting brakes. The ICON represents the entry reel into Quantum's PT lineup of reels and this year, it receives a facelift. Sporting 11 bearings, 2 PT Bearings, and the afore mentioned ACS brake system, the Icon PT will be available for right around $120.

Icon receives a PT facelift and is looking very refined for a $119.95 reel!

A good, mid-depth spool ensures good line capacity.

Thanks to Alan McGuckin who was kind enough to show us what's new with Quantum!

Conclusion: Quantum's newly revamped more consumer friendly reels show how far these so called entry level reels have come. Thanks to engineering advances discovered during the design and fulfillment of their higher end models, Quantum was able to refine their more budget friendly lineup both ergonomically and mechanically. These new models promise to fill a much needed niche in today's marketplace.
