Introduction:
The Powell brand has over 100 years of experience in the fishing rod industry. While the majority of their company history has been within the fly rod market, the success of Powell's bass rods has taken center stage the last several years. Having never lost touch with their fly fishing roots, Powell is aiming to continue their legacy in fly fishing by revitalizing their lineup with the introduction of the new Legacy XL rods.

Powell showed us their new Legacy XL prototype fly rods which will undergo a few minor changes before they are ready for production.

Legacy XL Series- When designing the Legacy XL rods, Powell's aim was to create several well-rounded core models that would deliver great performance and solid components at outstanding pricing. Each rod is built upon special 30-ton Maxumfiber blanks and comes dressed with Fuji Alconite stripping guides complimented by Pacific Bay black-chrome stainless snake guides and large-loop tip tops for easy knot clearance. Other features include premium cork grips, black woven graphite reel seats and hook keepers on lighter models, along with black anodized-aluminum seats and fighting butts on heavier models.

Here's a look at the two reel seat styles that will be featured on these new sticks.

To start things off there will be six rods in the series; an 8'9” 3-weight, 9'0” 4,5, and 6 weights, and 9'0” 8 and 9 weights. Every model will come in four-piece configuration. Expect lighter models to have a medium-fast action with heavier models touting a more powerful fast taper. As an added convenience, all Legacy XL's will come equipped with a rod tube and divided cloth sock. Look for prices well under $200 with availability by later this year.

One of several new bass models this year is the 714 MHEF spinning rod in the Max 3D lineup

New Bass Models- Powell also unveiled several newcomers to their Inferno and Max 3D families of rods:

- Inferno 704CB Medium Power Mod-Fast Action Glass Casting Rod

- Max 3D 714MHEF Medium-Heavy Extra-Fast Spinning Rod

- Max 3D 715CEF Mag-Heavy Extra-Fast Casting Rod

Thanks to Powell CEO Keith Bryan along with Jeff Woods and Ray Mayo for showing us the new gear.

Conclusion: Whether you're a conventional or fly angler, Powell offers something for everyone. They consistently roll out new and expanded offerings to keep things interesting and we really like that about them. Also, keep a look out for new Powell clothing styles in the near future including new long-sleeve technical shirts.
