Megabass Introduces Exciting New Baits

Introduction:
As most who follow the brand already know, Megabass is not just about fishing rods and while the introduction of their "affordably" priced $199 Levante series of rods was exciting, there's a whole-nother side to the brand we've yet to discuss - baits! Megabass, and actually, more accurately, Megabass of America has a crop of new baits they shared with us at ICAST 2015.

The Eeler is a 9" bait that swims like, well, an eel!

Eeler : Eeler is a four piece bait that reminds me of those toy snakes we had as children that you hold at the tail and move back and forth with the slightest twist of your wrist and fingers. Granted those toys did not have hooks on the bottom. this bait is designed to float on the surface and swim in an S pattern on a straight retrieve. An erratic retrieve will cause the bait to curl and dart unpredictably. It is just over nine inches in length, weighs one ounce, and will retail for $29.99.

Another lipless crank from Megabass?

Fermata : This is a curious bait to say the least. Sharing a similar look and profile to the company's Vibration-X lipless crank, the Fermata is built to almost suspend in the water when you stop your retrieve! Built with a super slow sink rate, imagine the potential over the top of submerged weed beds. It weights just three eighths of an ounce (3/8oz) and retail will be $18.99.

Yes, but the Fermata sinks so slowly it almost suspends!

Megabass enters the L.O.U.S. club with...

Grenade : Megabass enters the L.O.U.S. (lures of unusual size) arena with their new, oversized square bill. Set to run at a maximum depth of four (4) feet, this three and a quarter (3 1/4) inch, one and five eighths of an ounce (1-5/8oz) bait features a low center of gravity for consistent retrieves and maximum casting distance. The Grenade will retail for $24.99.

... The Grenade, a 3-1/4", 1-5/8oz square bill!

I-Jack : The I-Jack is one of those innocuous looking baits (if anything from Megabass can ever be considered innocuous) that might easily be overlooked on the store pegboard because it doesn't really look like much. It's a shad profile bait with a bill on it - ok. But the secret with this bait lies internally with Megabass's patent pending "Rudder Action Balance System (RAB)". There's a rubber ball on the inside of the bait attached to a swivel arm that moves from side to side changing the bait's balance as you retrieve making it roll and wobble along the surface, and also causes it to emit a unique thumping sound. The I-Jack measures just over four inches (4") in length and weighs one ounce (1 oz). Retail price is set for $19.99.

The I-Jack is a new waking bait.

I-Slide 262T : It seems none of the serious glide bait throwers take a bait seriously unless it is offered in some form of a magnum size. Witness Roman Made's Mother, the Deps Slide Swimmer 250, Gancraft's new 300 size glider, even River2Sea's 200 size slide swimmer. When Megabass debuted their original I-Slide bait last year, the first question in the minds of serious anglers was, are they going to make a larger size? Well, those who've been paying attention already know the answer to this question since the I-Slide 262T has already had a soft launch, but now, at ICAST 2015, the bait has been made official and was debuted in all of its glorious color schemes.

How about a 10" glide bait from Megabass? The I-Slide 262T.

Measuring a full ten inches and change (+10"), this bait weighs in at six (6) ounces. It is designed to be a slow sinking bait and comes with the tail detached to preserve shape and integrity during shipping. Just lube the connecting piece up with a little water and it will slide in. It will be offered in five colors and retail for $94.99.

Magdraft gets 2 new sizes ...

Magdraft 8 & 10 : Continuing on that super-size trend, the MagDraft is another bait that receives larger sizes for 2016. Originally only offered in a six inch size, it will now be available in an eight and ten inch size and with the same internal harness and magnet to help keep the hook in check! There are five available colors for these baits and they will retail for $24.99 & $29.99 respectively.

... an 8" and a 10".

S-Crank 2.0 is the next size iteration for the popular STW bait.

S-Crank 2.0 : No, the 2.0 does not refer to another version of this already popular little square bill from Megabass, but it's a new, larger size! Originally offered in 1.2 (2 -1/3" : 3/8 oz) and 1.5 (2-1/2" : 1/2 oz) the new 2.0 is a three inch (3") bait weighing a full ounce (1oz). Running depth on this bait is a full six to six and a half feet (6' - 6-1/2'). The new, larger S-Crank will retail for $22.99.

To say Chris Zaldain is excited over these new baits is like saying Zaldain is excited!

Conclusion: It's difficult keeping up with all the new product Megabass of America churns out each and every year. Just when we thought we were ready to write-up the S-Crank, a new size comes out that we just have to try and include in the review. Just when we thought we had found a square bill that we may or may not be happy with from Megabass, out they come with the Grenade! Oh yeah, did you see the images of the I-Slide 262T? Or how about that suspending vibration bait? It's clear Megabass knows how to keep the excitement brewing over their brand and their product line. Time to get to work putting these baits through the TackleTour wringer!
