Introduction:
While searching the aisles of the ICAST/IFTD show, it was no surprise to see the North Fork Composites booth. What was a surprise was to see them not just showcasing conventional rods, but fly rods as well! Though just a small lineup is expected for now, it didn't hurt our curiosity when it came to these fresh new sticks.

We like the simplistic look of the new EDGE fly rods.

EDGE fly rods: While bass rods from North Fork Composites have seen some limited market exposure (and some exposure here on TackleTour), these fly rods were totally new to us and a very pleasant surprise to see on the racks.

Matte-grey blanks exude both tech and stealth appeal.

Made with next-gen IM (intermediate modulus) blanks, these rods bear a resemblance to the classic G. Loomis GLX rods that are still made—though in limited numbers—today. EDGE fly rods will come equipped with ALPS LXN titanium-framed stripping guides, hard chrome snakes, and premium cork grips.

Khiem Nguyen, VP of Manufacturing, shows us the two fly rod handle designs.

Lighter models feature aluminum reel seats with wood spacers, while heavier models sport anodized aluminum seats. Expect to see 4,5,6,8, and 10-weight sizes, with all but the 4-weight measuring 9-feet long. All rods will include a carbon fiber tube and sock. Prices are yet to be determined but are estimated to be from about $750–$1,000 with availability by the first of December.

Nicole Darland, VP of Marketing and Brand Development, shows us one of the stouter EDGE fly rods.

Conclusion: In addition to the EDGE fly rod lineup, there are a few other projects in the works. Currently under development and testing is a family of 20 to 60-pound-class “Inshore and Deep Blue” spinning and casting rods. Details are scarce, but expect further info in the near future. Also, a line of gear and apparel is on the way as well, so stay tuned for the latest from North Fork Composites!
