Introduction:
Fly Fishing is an awesome and challenging sport. Whether dead-drifting tiny dries over high-country brook trout or sliding a streamer in front of a cruising keys tarpon, each situation demands certain skills and specialized equipment. Rajeff Sports offers tackle to cover all the aquatic bases, and they were one of the many companies at the IFTD show this year displaying a bevy of new rods made to increase your on-the-water success at smile-worthy prices.

ION XL rods are saltwater-friendly rods at a great price.

Echo ION XL: The Echo ION series of rods has been redesigned in the new ION XL series. These 6–10 weight fly rods are geared towards saltwater anglers and are said to retain their responsiveness and tough qualities, yet benefit from both a new look and a drop in weight. Features include full-wells grips, fighting butts, and black anodized-aluminum reel seats. Every rod is 4-piece and models vary between 9 and 10-feet in length with either a medium-fast, fast, or “medium fast-ish” action. Regardless of which ION XL you choose, expect an MSRP of just $159.99.

Pleasingly simple, the blanks are black and dressed with bluish-grey wraps and silver trim.

Echo Carbon XL: Not to be outdone, the Carbon series of rods from Echo has also been redesigned as the new Carbon XL lineup. Models in this family are made to be lightweight and easy casting, with medium-fast and “medium fast-er” actions available. All rods are 4-piece, and there's six rods to choose from ranging from a 7-foot 3-inch 2-weight up to a 9-foot 6-weight. Carbon XL rods are affordably priced at only $139.99 for all models.

Carbon XL rods offer a nice level of refinement for the money.

Looking at the immense selection of models offered by ECHO makes us want to go fishing....NOW!

Conclusion: These new rods are a great option for fly anglers on a budget. In addition to the above models, Echo is adding seven new 9-foot models to the Echo3 series, a new 10-footer to the Shadow II line, three Echo Glass models, two new Echo Base rods, and an Echo Gecko kit that includes rod, reel, line, and case for $169.99. If you are looking at adding any of these new sticks to your quiver of fly rods you'll be able to grab one (or several!) starting around January 1st.
