Introduction:
Argentina-based Correntoso Reels may not be a household name in America quite yet, but  these reels certainly have a look all their own. We first met with these guys at last year's IFTD show and were impressed by the unique appearances and designs of their reels. This year they made the long trip to Orlando once again, this time to show off a new fully-featured prototype reel.

The special drag system eliminates the need for a center shaft.

Lobo Reel: The prototype Lobo reel is an eye-catching piece that looks very different than most other reels on the market. Built with a self-supporting chassis, the one-piece frame has the drag structure built-in for strength and rigidity. The patented Expanded Drag System (EDS) is a large cylindrical cork ring around the center of the reel that offers a generously-sized stopping surface.

The back of the reel sports a drag adjustment knob.

We are told this reel carries an amazing 30+ pounds of drag!

The Lobo reel is fully machined from T-6061 aluminum and is right/left hand interchangeable. The prototype at the show was a 9/10 model that weighed in at approximately 7.4 ounces and holds about 200+ yards of backing. MSRP is expected to be around $590.

The spool is relatively narrow which should facilitate quick line retrieval.

Thanks again to the team at Correntoso for showing us the ins and outs of the Lobo!

Conclusion: We always like taking a look at fishing gear that is a little different, and Correntoso Reels certainly are. Their unique looks and interesting drag designs makes them stand out in a sea of other reels. If the Lobo reel interests you, expect them to become available around April of 2016.
