Introduction:
If someone is using a Cheeky reel you'll likely recognize it instantly. Most of their reels exhibit bright, bold color schemes that are easy to identify from a mile away. At the IFTD show this year, they brought out not only fresh fly reels, but a couple of colorful new products from outside the realm of fly fishing as well!

Two-handed fishing continues to grow in popularity, and Cheeky delivers new reels to satisfy these enthusiasts!

Spey: The new Spey series from Cheeky is comprised of two models; the Mojo 425 Spey ($420) for 5–7 weight lines and the Thrash 475 Spey ($460) for 8–11 weight lines. Both reels feature less porting in the frame for added weight to help better balance long spey rods. In addition, both spools are sized appropriately to accommodate long, thick spey lines along with ample backing. A few other key features of each include a sealed EVO synthetic disc drag, quick-change spool, and reel case.

Spey reels utilize a bit “fuller” frame style for added weight.

Tyro reels each have a CNC-machined reel foot, drag knob, and spool cap.

Tyro: These reels feature die-cast frames and spools which translates to very affordable pricing. Tyro reels utilize the same Rev carbon drag as what's found in the Boost series for smooth performance. Light in weight, each model boasts features like easy L/R conversion, quick-change spool, and reel case. Three model sizes are offered; 300 for 2–4 weights ($129): 350 for 5–6 weights ($139); and a 375 for 7–8 weights ($149).

The largest Tyro 375 model weighs just 5.6 ounces.

The FLOTR (right) and CYDRO (left) are Cheeky's first entries into the spinning market.

FLOTR Spinning: Yep, you read this correct—SPINNING! Cheeky is entering the world of spinning reels with two series', the first of which is their FLOTR series. Constructed with a machined spool and plastic body, these reels deliver anglers a good value at just $69. Best-suited for freshwater fishing, FLOTR reels incorporate a PWR multi-disc drag, Duro-Lift bail, instant anti-reverse, and contain 5+1 bearings.

FLOTR reels come in 1500, 2500, and 3500 sizes.

Saltwater-friendly CYDRO reels have CarbonSpin spools that feature carbon-fiber insets.

CYDRO Spinning: Geared towards saltwater angling, CYDRO reels are beefed up to handle the rigors of bigger quarry. Underneath that eye-catching color scheme is a SaltForce aluminum frame and body, PWR+ multi-disc drag, Duro-Lift bail system, and 9+1 stainless steel bearings. In addition, the handle and spool are both fully machined. Pricing is set at $129 with a 3500, 4500, and 5500 size available.

Ted Upton and Grant White show off their latest creations!

Conclusion: The latest gear from Cheeky keeps things fresh without the premium price tags so common in fly fishing. Interested in any of the new gear? If so, you're in luck. All of the new offerings are available right now, so grab some and hit the water!
