Introduction:
At this year's IFTD show we had the pleasure of meeting the guys at Aleka Sports. We had previously seen snippets of the brand here and there, but never had the opportunity to handle any of their gear. Aleka was on hand at the show to not just show off current product offerings, but to showcase two brand new families of wallet-friendly rods.

The Evolve switch rod sports an olive coloration.

Aleka X1: Fishing with switch rods is big right now in the trout and steelhead world, and Aleka meets that demand with their new X1 series.  These rods are fast action with long, clean cork handles and matte blanks. The matte-black reel seats are machined from marine-grade aluminum, while each rod uses snake guides.

Several models will be available including an 11-foot four-piece 8-weight ($269.99); 11-foot four-piece 7-weight ($259.99); 11-foot four-piece 6-weight ($249.99); and finally a 5-weight Evolve model that can be configured to either 11-feet or 11-feet-6-inches thanks to a special 6-inch extension piece. This rod is technically a five-piece rod (if you count the adapter portion) and retails for $259.99. All models include a tube and sock.

X2 rods are currently available for purchase.

Clean, simple looks are always welcome.

Aleka X2: Like the X1 rods, X2 rods also boast fast actions and matte blanks. You'll find features such as aluminum-oxide stripping guides, single-foot guides, alignment dots, and premium cork grips. Eight models are offered ranging from a 7-foot-6-inch 3-weight ($199.99) up to a 10-foot 6-weight ($239.99). Like the X1 series, there's an Evolve model in the form of a 3-weight which includes two 8-inch extension pieces to give the rod an overall length of 8-feet-4-inches to 10 feet. All rods are four-piece (Evolve model is six total pieces) and includes a tube and sock.

A special 7-foot-6-inch 3-weight X2 in the series was designed by Italian casting master Massimo Magliocco.

Thanks to the Aleka Sports team for showing us the latest products!

Conclusion: These new rods look great and are covered under a lifetime warranty for added peace of mind. The X2 series is currently available, however you'll have to wait until September to find an X1. Aleka also offers a line of conventional rods and reels in addition to a bunch more fishing accessories, so give them a look no matter what your fishing needs are!
