Introduction: I can't remember another apparel company that has come in, and up, so quickly in the fishing space than Simms. The company now caters to anglers of all sorts and as usual came to ICAST loaded to bear with new technical garments and clever tackle storage options.

Rich Hohne walks us through the many new Simms offerings at ICAST

Simms also had one of the larger booths at ICAST, and as usual we were greeted by Rich Hohne, Digital Marketing and PR Manager, and our guide through all of the new Simms introductions for the coming season.

The popular Solarflex sunglove will soon be available in new patterns like this aggressive Fractal Rain Camo

Solarflex Sun Protection: Over the past season Simms continued to grow their lineup of garments providing protection to anglers that spend their entire day under the blistering sun. This season the company is adding new patterns like fractal rain camo to popular lines like their Solarflex sunglove. Simms will also be introducing new versions of their Waypoint Crewneck and their Currents Hoody garments. The Waypoint LS Crewneck is the perfect shirt for shoulder seasons and features COR3 fabric technology to provide an optimal balance of sun protection, moisture management and odor control. A flat seam construction is designed to provide both comfort and freedom of movement. The Waypoint will retail for $59.95.

Looking for sun protection? The Simms Solarflex Currents Hoody and Waypoint LS Crewneck have you covered

When even more protection is required the Currents Hoody provides the same basic features as the Waypoint, but with the addition of an integrated hood that provides additional coverage for your neck and head. Like the Waypoint this garment offers UPF 30 protection and will retail for only 5 dollars more at $64.95.

The Confluence shirt/jacket is reversible

Confluence Reversible: Simms is also expanding their offerings to include products that are designed for everyday wear. The new Confluence Reversible is part of their "Off-Water Collection" and is basically two shirts in one. This reversible insulated shirt/jacket is constructed out of a wicking flannel and polyester rip-stop material that feels very soft to the touch.

As part of the Simms Off-Water Collection the Confluence Reversible brings some angling style into everyday wear

While designed to look good just walking down the street this garment can also be used for fishing and 60 grams of insulation will help keep you warm in cooler conditions. There are two hand warmer pockets, two buttoned chest pockets and two zippered chest pockets to provide plenty of storage for all your necessities. This shirt/jacket provides plenty of sun protection and has a robust UPF 50 rating and will be available this Fall for the retail price of $129.95.

Looking for a great jacket for layering?

Fall Run Jacket: One of Simms more popular jackets, the Fall Run, has now been completely redesigned for Fall 2014. This light highly packable jacket now has a new more stylish cut and comes loaded with Primaloft gold insulation which maintains 96% of its warmth even when wet.

The Fall Run Jacket has been redesigned and provides anglers with a highly packable technical garment

The low profile styling makes this a great jacket for layering or simply keeping on hand for emergencies. Hand warmer pockets and YKK zippered chest pockets provide plenty of storage and the DWR treated face fabric helps repel water when you encounter boat spray or unexpected rain. The Fall Run will be available this Fall (of course) and will retail for $189.95.

New Solarflex crewnecks designed specifically for women

Women's Solarflex: More and more women are joining the angling ranks and Simms has a lineup of apparel designed specifically for this growing audience. The new Women's Solarflex LS Crewneck Artist Series features the beautiful art of Andrea Larko. A permit or trout grace the back of these COR3 based garments, but these are not men's garments with art on them. The cuts are very different and a longer torso length provides additional protection when flats fishing or rowing. These garments also deliver a very high UPF 50 rating and will be available Spring 2015 for a retail price of $54.95 each.

The Simms Headwaters Tackle Bag provides 35L of storage goodness

Headwaters Tackle Bag: Everyone needs a good tackle bag and the new Simms Headwaters Bag stores tackle in a variety of cleverly designed compartments and pockets. The main opening is easily accessed with a double zipper enclosure and there are a plethora of exterior pockets for all the gear you desire quick access to.

Plenty of storage inside and outside via multiple exterior easy access pockets

The bottom of the Headwaters Tackle Bag is waterproof and provides protection even on the wet floor of a boat while the upper section of the bag is constructed out of DWR coated nylon for enhanced water resistance and durability. This new bag will be available Spring 2015 for a retail price of $179.95.

This seemingly simple pack is among the most durable on the market

Dry Creek Backpack: If you are a fly fisherman of backcountry angler a backpack is going to suit you much better than a conventional tackle bag and the new Dry Creek Z backpack is designed to stay completely protected from even the harshest elements with a fully waterproof (that's right, waterproof not just water resistant) design. The Dry Creek accomplishes this with a welded construction and submersible TIZIP zippers.

Rich stabs the Dry Creek Z violently with a pair of Simms pliers. No damage here.

Just how strong is this material and construction? While briefing us Rich paused to grab a pair of Simms pliers and proceeded to stab the bag repeatedly at full force! The bag not only survived the assault it seemed to shrug off the attack easily, so I gave it a few more stabs for good measure, but still no damage. This highly durable pack provides 25L of capacity and stretch cording outside allows for additional gear to be carried outside. Fully cushioned straps and back panel makes carrying loads easy and comfortable. The Dry Creek Z backpack looks like a must have for the adventurous angler looking for a rugged day pack that is ready to take on everything mother nature can throw at it. This pack will be available Spring 2015 and retail for $299.95.

Thanks to Rich for showing us all the upcoming Simms offerings

As usual Simms did not disappoint and at the show we only covered the products that we found the most exciting. If we covered every new product that Simms was offering this would no doubt be a very long article. Clearly Simms has no intention of slowing their growth in the market, and with offerings like the ones we saw this ICAST I'd bet they are poised to have yet another stellar season.
