Introduction:
We had the opportunity to visit several companies for the first time at this year's IFTD fly fishing show, and Clutch was one of them. Even though the brand has only been around since 2012, they have been steadily gaining momentum in the fly rod marketplace. Offering a range of both single and two-handed rods from 5 to 12 weight, their latest offerings are geared towards those anglers chasing saltwater game.

The labeling and overall simplicity of the build is very appealing.

Archipelago Saltwater: Introduced earlier this year, the Archipelago Saltwater series are all 9-foot 4-piece rods ranging from 7 to 10 weight in size. The fast-action blanks are built using a 50 to 60-million-modulus graphite blend for the ultimate in feel and crisp performance. Other features include Flor-grade cork, black anodized aluminum reel seat w/ Clutch logo, ceramic Titan stripping guides, and a protective tube and sock. Archipelago rods are available right now at a price of $815.00 for all models.

Archipelago rods come with black aluminum reel seats and ultra-clean cork.

Theory: Two trends we've noticed recently include an increased number of both lightweight two-handed rods and 1-piece saltwater rods. Recognizing the latter trend, Clutch has answered the demands of customers with the unveiling of the new Theory lineup.

The Clutch Theory 10-weight....

This family of 1-piece rods all measure 8-feet 10-inches in length and sport a stout extra-fast action. Like the Archipelago series, Theory blanks are built on a 50 to 60-million-modulus graphite blend and include Flor-grade cork grips, anodized aluminum reel seats, ceramic Titan stripping guides, and tube and sock. You can get your hands on a Theory rod immediately at a price of $750.00 for all models.

Theory rods boast silver anodized-aluminum reel seats.

Thanks to Lee Janik III (owner) and John Rudolph (production manager) for walking us through the latest rods.

Conclusion: All Clutch rods are made right here in the United States. Another cool aspect of this company is that they have the ability to build you a semi-custom rod using different components and cosmetics. It was really enjoyable seeing the new products, throwing some loops on the casting pond, and conversing with a few of the pro-staff guides that were in attendance. With a growing dealer network, expect to hear much more from this brand in the future!
