Introduction:
Part of what makes conventions so great is learning about companies that you're unfamiliar with. Bozeman Reel from—you guessed it—Bozeman, Montana, is one such company. Before the IFTD show we were totally unaware of the brand, but we quickly got acquainted with their small lineup of precision reels and accessories.

The guys at Bozeman tell us to expect new reel colors by June 2015.

M1 Fly Reels: The new release at the show this year from Bozeman was their M1 fly reel. This machined-aluminum fly reel is designed with classic styling inspired by reels made during the early 20th century.

The M1 reel is designed for simplistic beauty and functionality.

Made for 4–6 weight lines, the M1 reel weighs just 4.9 ounces and sports an internal click-and-pawl drag, cocobolo wood handle, palming rim, and interchangeable right/left hand retrieve. Backing capacity with a WF5F line is 75 yards of 20-pound backing. This reel will be available in spring 2015 at a price of $450.

Bug collars brighten up many fly patterns.

Bug Collars: Available in 5 sizes and 30 different colors, Bug Collars are doughnut-shaped brass beads that a fly tier can quickly add to his or her fly for added weight and color attraction. The design of these allows them to be used alone, in groups, or behind beads or cones of similar size. You can pick up a pack of 25 for $3–$6 starting in mid August.

This woolly bugger sports a chartreuse Bug Collar.

BRC Magnetic Rod Holder: This rod holder utilizes two super-strong magnets to solidly secure it to the outside of your vehicle. Designed to simplify the rigging process rather than for transportation, the rod holder can be left attached to your vehicle (without the rod) while driving and utilizes a soft rubber insert for protection. Availability begins November 1st at a price of $16.95. For more info or to pre-order, head to the company's site and click on “BRC Gear” then “Accessories.”

Thanks to Mike Ewing for helping us at the show.

Conclusion: Bozeman Reels is a small company that makes some really classy and cool products. They seem like a great option if you want to deviate from the mainstream and desire something different. Though this is the first time we've seen them, we are certain it won't be the last!
