Introduction:
There's no doubt that fly fishing can be an expensive sport. Thankfully, companies like Allen Fly Fishing offer affordable alternatives for anglers that seek the best value. Even though Allen offers many great products that are easy on the wallet, this year they are introducing two new reel lines that look promising if you desire something even better.

Omega fly reels are built right here in America.

Omega Fly Reels: At the top of the Allen Fly Fishing reel range sits the brand new Omega series. These are built in Detroit and feature fully-machined construction with a totally sealed 6-disc carbon drag system. Perhaps the most unique part of this reel is that the drag system is interchangeable.

The removable drag is a very cool feature.

Using a simple tool provided by Allen, the entire drag can be quickly removed and put into the frame of any model Omega. This allows you to keep multiple setups already strung up since all you have to do is remove the drag from one reel and pop it into another—much more efficient than changing spool and stringing line through the guides. And yes, Allen tells us the drag is more than powerful enough whether you're using it on a 7 or 12 weight.

The narrow spool design is something we always like to see.

Omega reels will come in models for line weights 7/8, 9/10, and 11-14 and retail for $575.00. Expect to see these reels sometime in early August.

Kraken XLA reels are super lightweight thanks to an open design.

Kraken XLA Fly Reels: Released before the IFTD show, the Kraken XLA is an upgraded version of Allen's popular Kraken series. Like the Omega series, these extremely lightweight reels utilize a fully sealed 6-disc carbon drag stack for extreme stopping power.

The large textured drag knob is easy to adjust.

These reels will be available in models 6–9, 9–12, and 12–15 at a retail price of $339.00. You can get your hands on one of these right now.

Thanks to the Allen team for showing us the new products!

Conclusion: We were impressed by Allen Fly Fishing's latest additions. The idea of an interchangeable drag is certainly an interesting one and is something we'd like to try. With the introduction of these new offerings Allen now sells a grand total of six different reel models starting at just $99.00.
