More Than Just A REVELATION From Batson Enterprises

Date: 7/23/13
Location: Las Vegas, NV
Admission: Buyers & Press Only
Manufacturer: Batson
Reviewer: Wolbugger

Introduction:
Batson Enterprises is one of the largest manufacturers and suppliers of rod blanks and components in the entire world. Based in Washington state, they carry several brands like RainShadow, Alps, and Forecast under their name. While they supply parts to many individual rod builders, they also deal with some of the largest rod companies around. This year at ICAST, they unleashed not only a variety of new products, but a whole new image as well.

Batson is one of the largest supplier of rod blanks and components and this ICAST rolled out a plethora of new designs

RainShadow REVELATION Rod Blanks: These brand new blanks sit just below the RX8 series, and are said to offer extreme performance for the price. These satin-black blanks took 18 months of research, development, and testing to perfect, and are comprised of 43 million modulus material made with the highest quality manufacturing processes. They tout such features as Optimized Wall Thickness (OWT), Proprietary Tip Reinforcement (PTR), and Proprietary Modulus Positioning (PMP), to name just a few. The included “High Density SC” (HDSC) technology supposedly makes these rods up to 30% lighter and 100% stronger than the closest competitor, all in a more streamlined package. Blanks are available in 14 spinning and 12 casting models, each with a fast or extra-fast action. Pre-orders are available now, and they begin shipping August 1st. Look for these to carry an MSRP of $32.00 to $120.00.

Alps TexTouch Reel Seats: New from Alps are the new TexTouch series of reel seats. As the finest graphite reel seats to date from Alps, these feature three cutouts: one small cutout on each side that features an insert made of woven Texalium material (select models) to amplify blank feel, and one large blank cutout to maximize blank-to-finger contact. These ergonomic seats also sport double CNC machined locking nuts, and a lightweight, reinforced double-keyed hood to eliminate hood spin. There will be 14 sizes with 4 body/hood colors available. Look for these around August 1st with an MSRP of $18.00.

Alps Split Reel Seats: Split reel seats from Alps feature a two-piece design for maximum blank contact. Each seat features a threaded barrel with SS304 stainless hood, and black main bodies with or without a soft touch coating. These will be offered in 12 different sizes and 4 various hood colors. Look for these in August with an MSRP of $10.00 for both casting or spinning models.

Batson may not build branded rods but there were a whole lot of manufacturers at ICAST using their components

Alps Wave Form Reel Seats: Wave Form reel seats sport an elegant rising and falling wave profile that should look great on any high-end rod build. Precision CNC machined from marine grade aluminum then given a hard anodized finish, the ergonomic shape is designed for extreme comfort. The semi-triangular shape keeps the front hood and slide band aligned, while a double lock nut design ensures your reel stays put. Look for availability beginning August 1st, at a price of $45.00.

The company's upcoming reel seats look very exciting

Alps Single Trigger Window Reel Seats: Like the Wave Form reel seats, these are CNC machined from marine grade aluminum and given a hard anodized finish. These are perfect for fresh or saltwater applications, and feature a woven Texalium insert for good looks and amplified feel. The main body is keyed to prevent the rear hood and slide band from spinning, while a double lock nut and Delrin spacer provide maximum locking power. These will be available August 1st at a price of $67.00.

Alps Centra-Lock Seats: These reel seats come with a new nut design and are CNC machined from marine grade aluminum with a hard anodized finish. The reel seats feature a custom double nut system with Delrin washers, a front retainer that's keyed to prevent spinning, and woven Texalium inserts. Be on the lookout for these August 1st with an MSRP between $35.00-$55.00.

The company also sells Dyna-Tek nano-ceramic coating

Dyna-Tek- Dyna-Tek is a nano-ceramic, flexible clear coat that's designed to reduce friction by over 50%, improve casting, and protect against dirt and corrosion. Pro angler Brent Chapman has already been using this product with great results. It is easily applied with the included towelettes, and equipment must only be coated once per year for maximum performance. Dyna-Tek not only has products for fishermen, but for guns, marine, and automotive applications as well. Coming soon are also kits for fly fishing equipment, cutlery, and hooks/lures. Look these products right now at a price around $15.00.

Thanks to Ryan McIntosh, VP of Marketing at Batson showed us the exciting new offerings at Batson

Conclusion: Rod builders should be delighted by these latest offerings from Batson Enterprises. Even though the brand is starting to undergo some major changes, they pledge to keep their high levels of quality and service. Vice President of business development/marketing Ryan McIntosh was excited about what the company is doing, and where they are going. Keep watch on Batson in the future as they promise even more product introductions to come, and also be on the lookout for a writeup of a fully built REVELATION blank in the days ahead!
