ICAST 2011 Coverage

Lew's broadens offerings including new Wally Marshall Signature Series Crappie Reels and Rods (continued)

Wally Marshall Signature Baitcast reel : One of the most exciting new reels is the miniature Signature Series baitcaster which I can see being used for a whole lot more than just Crappie. This smart looking reel features the same basic design as Lew's other baitcasters just in a mini footprint that is just a tiny blip on your reel seat.

The Signature Series baitcaster looks like a mini Speed Spool...

The reel is finished with the Tuxedo Black finish and features a graphite construction, 2+1 bearings, a forged aluminum spool, magnetic cast control system, and a forged shallow spool. With a 100yd. capacity with 10lb. mono your not going to be fishing for stripers with this reel but it would make a great finesse or panfish reel.

...it looks tiny on the reel seat and should make an excellent finesse reel

The reel was surprisingly smooth for only have 3 bearings and I really think it would be a kick to land wither a nice Crappie or Panfish with this tint reel. The reel features a 6.4:1 retrieve which is good for multi-purpose use and retails for only $49.99.

Lew's also introduced a new lineup of Signature Series rods

Wally Marshall Signature Rods : Lew's had a lot of rods this show as well both in their new Tournament SL and Crappie lineup. We will be taking a look at all of these rods in the future but suffice to say there are plenty of good rod offerings to pair with all these new reels. What I found very impressive was the price points of even the higher end Signature series Lite rods which are designed to pair with the higher end Crappie reels. These rods feature IM6 graphite, EVA grips, hard aluminum oxide guides, are all designed with very specific actions for jigging with light line and small jigs, and only retail for $59.99 each! Whether you are tossing lures or trolling for slabs Lew's and Wally have it covered.

An example of the spread Wally would run. Lew's makes it easy to pair the right tackle together at a great price, so anglers can focus on catching fish and not what the right reel and rods are for the application

Conclusion: Lew's is doing it right, they continue to give anglers a quality product at a reasonable price and we are very excited about the new lineup of Crappie reels and rods. These are not just "get her done" tackle, but really refined offerings that anglers that are really passionate about pursuing slabs will really enjoy fishing. Wally has everything broken down to a science and anglers don't need to think about which rod and reel to combo, there is an entire system in place so anglers can worry less about what the right combo for their application is and just focus on fishing.
