Dobyns Rods Extends Their Proven Lineup

Introduction:
2009 WON BASS US Open Champ, Gary Dobyns, greeted us at his booth at this year’s ICAST with nothing new in terms of product line, but rather, extensions of his popular Champion and Champion Extreme series of rods. We were surprised to see this was one of the few rod manufacturers not jumping on the micro bandwagon.

Champion Series: The bread and butter series of rods in the Dobyns Rods catalog, the Champion Series receives four new spinning rods and one new crankbait rod. The new spinning introductions bring one-piece, seven foot, six inch rods to the lineup in medium light to heavy powers while the cranking rod introduction brings a one-piece, seven foot, six inch glass stick to the lineup rated for 1/4 - 3/4 ounce lures.

No new rod series this year for Dobyns Rods, instead, they fill in the existing lines with some new sticks.

Mike Long discusses his preference for longer handles on swimbait sticks.

Five casting rods are added to the Champion Extreme lineup but there are actually only three different models. Both the DX742 C and DX745 C are offered in split rear grip or full rear grip options hence the reason for the disparity.

Conclusion: 2011 will be a quiet year for Dobyns Rods in terms of new rod introductions, but that doesn’t mean the popularity of these sticks has waned. Rather, with three separate lines of rods and roughly 84 different skus there are plenty of sticks to keep anglers interested and with names like Gary Dobyns, Mike Long, Randy McAbee and more behind the product, you can bet excitement is not in short supply.
