Introduction: Ever since our introduction to the Skinny Bear product during our May 2008 Jig Week article, “Are You Ready For Some Football!! … Jigs?”, we’ve been keeping an eye on this fast growing bait company out of Southern California. Imagine our surprise when we stumbled upon their booth at ICAST 2009 all the way in Florida!

Go wacky with Skinny Bear

As one of the 80 New ICAST Exhibitors for 2009, the team at Skinny Bear brought pretty much their entire product catalog to share and we picked out a few gems to highlight.

Skinny Bear's Wacky Finesse Jig Head come stamped with the weight value on each head. The "1" on this side is mirrored by an "8" on the other side to indicate a 1/8th ounce jig head.

Extending their product line into terminal tackle, Skinny Bear is building simple and affordable product like their Wacky Finesse Jig Heads available with and without a weedguard and in three standard sizes from one sixteenth (1/16) to three sixteenths (3/16) of an ounce. They are available in pack of five for five dollars ($5) a pack.

Their new drop shot weights are also labeled as you can see here.

Their new dropshot weights feature a streamlined teardrop shape and come stamped with the weight value right on the side of the weight making it easy to identify your favorite sizes both for fishing and re-purchase reference.

The Skinny Bear Shad Eye 2 and Shad Eye Jerkbaits feature realistic profiles of fish fry - a delicacy for predatory species.

In their soft plastics line both the Skinny Bear Shade Eye 2 and Shad Eye Jerk Bait caught our attention as very realistic fish fry profiled baits suitable for finesse fishing any a variety of ways. The realistic color patterns and 3D eye should only enhance fish catching ability. They come in varying packs from three to five baits and retail for $4.99 - $5.49.

Still in the works are the Skinny Bear tube baits. These promise to be very popular amongst the tube throwing crowd.

Last but not least were a series of tube baits that are in the final stages of readiness. Pricing and availability were not yet apparent but we trust they will be reasonably priced to match all the other Skinny Bear product.

The team at Skinny Bear continue to expand their lure offerings

Conclusion: In the ICAST landscape of big manufacturers it's always fun to run across the smaller, home grown companies like Skinny Bear and view first hand the quality of products they are able to produce. The enthusiasm and thoughtfulness they put into their terminal tackle and baits is quite evident and we see nothing but good things for this growing company.
