Introduction:
Back in 1987 Daiwa was the
first tackle manufacturer to
introduce a reel with a
blazing fast 7.1:1 gear
ratio a benchmark that
competitors were unable to
match for nearly two
decades. Today there are a
slew of “Burner” class reels
but Daiwa prepares to up the
ante once again with the
world's fastest compact
baitcaster.

To celebrate 50 years Daiwa
introduces the fastest premium baitcast reel on the market, the Hyper-Speed

In recognition of the
company’s 50th anniversary, Daiwa is taking this concept a step
further by unveiling a new Special Edition Hyper-Speed TD Zillion™ with 7.3:1
retrieve – the world’s fastest compact baitcaster. Capable of cranking a massive
32 inches of line with a single turn of the handle, the new Hyper-Speed
TDZLN100SHA and mirror-image, left-hand winding TDZLN100SHLA will allow anglers
to rip lures back to the boat faster than ever before making this a good striper
reel as well. The higher speed means covering large areas of water has never
been easier.

The Hyper Speed Zillion features a
sports car red finish, and has the same frame protective fins as the standard
Zillion
To match the ultra high
speed Daiwa has made the new Zillions a sporty red color and to make them even
more exclusive each reel will be engraved and serial numbered. Both the
TDZLN100SHSA and TDZLN100SHSLA will boast a rigid aluminum frame and handle-side
sideplate for maximum strength and durability. This rugged housing protects
eleven corrosion-resistant CRBB ball bearings, plus a roller bearing, for
ultra-smooth, reliable performance under a wide range of conditions.

The Hyper Speed Zillion has a
distinct metal treatment that sets itself apart from the original, including
silver knobs and a black handle
When it comes to the guts
the reel will feature oversized high strength bronze gears that are designed to
supply extra of power for muscling big fish. Daiwa’s popular swept handle design
is also found on this reel. Daiwa states that the swept handle increases
“cranking stability and ease” as it moves the paddles closer to the rod’s
centerline for less wobble, a better feel and greater winding leverage.

The reel has the same profile but
is now ported on top
The new Hyper-Speed
Limited Edition model is designed to offer the same quality casting as the
standard Zillion and will implement a free-floating, perforated aluminum spool
which starts up fast and spins longer, working in combination with Daiwa’s
exclusive Magforce®-Z
automatic anti-backlash control to deliver long, trouble-free casts. The Hyper
reel also makes use of Daiwa’s consistent eight-disc wet and precision click
adjustment are possible with the audible drag star.

A swept handle finishes the new
reel, and we look forward to seeing how this new reel pairs with the yet to be
released new Zillion rods
Additional features
include: easy sideplate removal for quick spool changes; aluminum guard plate on
top of the reel for finish protection; and Soft Touch handle grips for a
comfortable, secure hold. Both the TDZLN100SHSA and TDZLN100SHSLA will be
available shortly after ICAST and will retail for of $299.95. Also breaking news
is that Daiwa will be releasing a new line of rods to match up perfectly with
the Zillion series. You guessed it, get ready for “Zillion” rods, while we don’t
have any details on the rod cosmetics or components yet the new rods should
bridge the gap between the ultra premium Steez rods and Daiwa's other sticks
nicely.
