Rod Review

ARK Rods Adds Value to Your Search With the IVK70MXC Casting Rod (continued)

Power: The IVK70MXC is built with an extra fast taper that allows you to tap into its backbone just a hair sooner than usual. Hooksets with both treble hook and single hook baits is solid and the rod's arch as you battle your catch is pretty smooth and predictable. Thanks to that extra fast taper, the IVK70MXC feels more on powerful side of medium.

Checking out the IVK70MXC's extra-fast taper.

The IVK70MXC features a closed loop hook hangar.

Design & Ergonomics: Ergonomically, the IVK70MXC's overall weight and balance is about average for its rated power. Regarding balance, this is good because sticks with split rear grips and no foregrip builds are typically tip heavy. Not so with this stick but I did expect it to be lighter because of its build. The extra weight is probably why the stick is so well balanced. In the end, it's a good trade off for this stick.

Guides are generic in brand but feature stainless steel frames with Zirconium inserts.

The IVK70MXC is a medium powered rod very worthy of any angler's Search for One.

Price & Applications: The IVK70MXC is offered at the very aggressive price point of $149.99 and is a very worthy candidate if you're in the middle of your search for "the One". Certainly ARK Rods offers medium-heavy powered sticks too that are more traditionally candidates for the search, but the IVK70MXC can hold its own in this capacity.

Pluses and Minuses:

Plus

Minus
+ Nice balance to weight ratio - If you prefer name brand components, you won't get them on this stick
+ Good sensitivity
+ Nice power curve

The IVK70MXC is a really fun stick to fish and is really versatile for a fishing rod sporting an extra-fast taper.

Conclusion: ARK Rods certainly has a knack for building a compelling stick at a value driven price. The IVK70MXC is a really fun stick to fish and is really versatile for a fishing rod sporting an extra-fast taper. The rod's blank responds well to a variety of presentations and thanks to a good balance to weight ratio, it's really easy to fish this stick over extended periods of time. The only negative I can come up with is ARK rods use of generic components, but if that's the price of keeping costs down so each stick in the series can be offered at the value price of a buck fifty, then so be it. While we did not enter the review process with the IVK70MXC thinking it was a candidate in the search for one, it has certainly worked its way into the mix.
