SEVIIN Launches High Performance GX Series Baitcaster

Date: 7/11/25
Tackle type: Reels
Manufacturer: SEVIIN
Reviewer: Zander

Introduction: Two years after making waves with its GF and GS reels, SEVIIN is heading back to the upcoming ICAST 2025 show with its most advanced casting reels yet - the all-new GX Series. Designed for anglers who are looking for a high performance reel the GX Series combines premium materials, refined ergonomics, and precise engineering, all at a competitive $220 price point.

SEVIIN's new high-end reel is the new GX Series

A Higher End SEVIIN: The GX Series is the highest end reel from SEVIIN to date and is comprised of six models covering three gear ratios, 6.6:1, 7.3:1, and a quick 8.1:1, each available in both right, and left-hand retrieves. Inside, an aluminum drive gear and brass pinion gear are isolated in the solid frame, eliminating flex and ensuring smooth power delivery, even under heavy loads. A 9+1 stainless steel bearing system with premium Japanese spool bearings designed to keep operation smooth and refined.

"The GX Series represents the next step for SEVIIN," says Robert Woods, SEVIIN Product Manager. "Our GF and GS reels proved we could deliver real performance and value. Now, GX delivers true elite-level quality and feel, built around a rigid 150-size aluminum frame and an aluminum gear-side cover for total structural integrity."

The GX features a uniquely shaped aluminum frame and sideplate and weighs in at 7.2oz.

The GX features SEVIIN's dual braking system which combines magnetic and centrifugal brakes for maximum distance and control. The easy-access centrifugal brake dial is housed under a secure side plate that stays attached - meaning no dropped parts on the deck or bank.

The GX features a composite palm-side cover that has the adjustment for the dual braking system

The drag system is designed to match the frame's strength with a multi-stack carbon fiber and stainless steel stack, rated up to 21 pounds of lockdown pressure depending on the model.

The spool is a 34-mm forged and ported aluminum spool

SEVIIN didn't stop at the internals in the GX's new design. Each reel comes equipped with an extra-thick 95mm carbon fiber handle with integrated hook keepers, lightweight skeletonized aluminum spools sized by model, and SEVIIN's signature silver, blue, and red anodized accents.

The 95mm carbon handle is a nice touch. The GX retails for $220 and will officially launch at ICAST next week and be available at the end of the year

In addition to the GX baitcaster SEVIIN will also be introducing a new saltwater spinning reel called the GW Series. Designed to be an affordable saltwater reel the GW reels feature fully sealed and gasketed aluminum bodies combined with a shielded 5+1 stainless-steel bearing system and a multi-stack carbon-fiber drag. Other features include forged & hard-anodized aluminum braid-ready spools and corrosion-resistant internals. There will be five sizes available ranging from 2500 to 6000. The GW reels will also debut next week and start shipping September 2025 for a price of only $130-$160 depending on size.

The GW Series are saltwater rated and designed to be affordable mainstream spinning reels

Our Quick Take: SEVIIN reels was created by the ownership of St. Croix to complement their broad lineup of rods, and with the success of the new brand two years in we are seeing more investment into design and features that are helping forge a strong identity for the brand. I like how the SEVIIN GX doesn't look like every other reel on the market and it is nice to see the company utilize higher end aluminum and carbon fiber materials, combined with Japanese spool bearings to elevate the new GX Series. The new GX looks interesting, and is certainly priced right helping make these new reels not only interesting to St. Croix fans but anglers in general looking for a high-end aluminum framed workhorse reel.
