Salty Crew Brings New Technical Apparel for Both Fresh and Saltwater Anglers

Date: 8/26/25
Tackle type: Angling Apparel
Manufacturer: Salty Crew
Reviewer: Zander

Introduction: Salty Crew has built its reputation around designing apparel that's equally at home on deck, dock, or beach, and at this year's ICAST the brand doubled down with new technical and lifestyle pieces designed to protect anglers in the elements with comfort as a priority. The lineup includes a new sun shirt, utility shorts, and the third generation of their foul weather gear, each refined with input from the Salty Crew team and built with both sustainability and performance in mind.

Matt Florentino is a respected industry vetran when it comes to technical angling apparel and introduced us to Salty Crew's newest pieces starting with the Apex Perforated Sunshirt

Salty Crew's sunshirts are designed to be very breathable and offer unrestricted movement with 4-way stretch fabrication

Apex Perforated Sunshirt Hoodie: A long day in relentless sun can grind down even the most seasoned waterman, but Salty Crew's new Apex Perforated Sunshirt Hoodie is built to fight back. Constructed from a recycled polyester blend with elastane for stretch, the shirt features a perforated knit design that maximizes breathability while still offering UPF 50+ sun protection.

The Mariner UV Hoodie is similar to the Apex but is made with Polyester, Viscose, and Elastane for a lightweight overall feel

I love the aged look of the Green Camo Pattern

The fabric is moisture-wicking, quick drying, and moves easily with a 4 way stretch, while flat lock seams and side gussets enhance comfort during extended wear. A snap-closure hood adds extra sun protection for anglers who spend as much time under the rays as under the radar. The Apex has a MSRP of $64.95

Artist, angler, and surfer Armadeo Bachar was at the show painting an original piece. Armadeo frequently collaborates with Salty Crew and his art can be found on the brand's shirts, hats, and even boardshorts

Matt shows us the Transom Tech Short in LT Camo pattern

Transom Tech Short: Equally at home on a fishing skiff or sandy shoreline, the new Transom Tech Short blends utility and casual style. Featuring an 18-inch outseam and cut from lightweight recycled polyester with 4-way stretch, the short is designed to handle active fishing applications while remaining comfortable on land. Multiple storage options include side hand pockets, back zipper pockets, and a zippered plier/phone cargo pocket. A zipper fly, button closure, and adjustable interior/exterior drawcords round out the package. This stylish technical short has a MSRP of $69.95

The Transom Tech Short is designed to be durable and yet lightweight and features plenty of pockets including a phone cargo pocket and a plier stow pocket

Long Range Jacket & Bib: While Salty Crew is best known for their sun protection and lifestyle garments, they also have some great foul weather gear pieces. For anglers facing unpredictable conditions, Salty Crew's Long Range Jacket and Bib combo enters its third generation, developed and tested by the team on demanding offshore runs and early-morning island missions. The 100% polyester 2.5-layer construction is lightweight and layerable while still boasting 20K waterproofing and 20K breathability, with a DWR finish and fully taped seams for reliable weather protection.

The Long Range Jacket has been redesigned and is both waterproof and breathable

The Long Range Jacket features a waterproof front zipper, multiple storage pockets, adjustable hood and cuffs, and even a kill switch d-ring at the hem for offshore safety. The jacket has a MSRP of $199.95.

The Long Range Jacket and Bib protects anglers from the elements but is also designed to feel light and comfortable

The Long Range Bib matches the jacket with tricot-lined front pockets, dual hand warmers, cargo storage, and a zippered entry system. Designed for long runs home in rough seas or grinding sessions at the rail, the set is lightweight but built tough and will retail for a MSR of $199.95.

Looking for a stylish UV button up shirt? Salty Crew has you covered

Our Quick Take: Matt Florentino has earned a strong reputation in the industry for creating technical apparel that not only performs but also delivers in style and comfort - pieces that anglers are just as likely to wear off the water as on it. Many of the garments he helped launch during his time at AFTCO remain staples in my fishing wardrobe. Since joining Salty Crew, Matt has quickly made his mark, introducing stylish yet technical offerings that are broadening the brand's appeal beyond the salt to freshwater and even bass anglers. The latest collection unveiled at ICAST continues that trajectory, with gear designed for those who live "offshore, onshore, and in between." Built to handle everything from scorching summer flats to cold, wet offshore decks, Salty Crew's new additions are all about keeping anglers protected, comfortable, and ready for whatever the day brings. Admittedly I hadn't slipped into a Salty Crew piece in years, but when Matt showed me the Apex and Mariner sunshirts, I immediately started building a post-show shopping list in my mind. That's how good these garments looked and felt.
