Date: 8/13/25
Tackle type: Reels
Manufacturer: Gamakatsu
Reviewer: Zander

Introduction: It's hard to innovate in the terminal tackle category but Gamakatsu continues to deliver exciting terminal tackle options at ICAST, debuting a lineup of new hooks, jigheads, and weights aimed squarely at anglers who demand the highest performance in finesse and precision presentations.

The team at Gamakatsu always seems to find a way to innovate terminal tackle. Everything from hooks and weights to blades and storage

Antenna Hook: Blending finesse and snag protection, the Antenna Hook sports Tournament Grade Wire (TGW) construction, Nano Smooth Coat, and Gamakatsu's G-Finesse Stinger profile. The adjustable 90-degree fluorocarbon weed guard maintains lure action while avoiding snags, and the fluorocarbon loop keeper locks plastics in place.

The Antenna Hook features long fluorocarbon antennae

Inspired by the Japanese concept of Shokkaku - heightened perception - it's ideal for bottom search baits. The Antenna hook will be available in sizes 4, 2, and 1 sizes.

Designed for bottom contact work

Super Tuned Drop Shot: This hook was actually one of the last hooks designed by the Gamakatsu team and the late great Aaron Martens. Designed for precision and maximum hookup percentages, the Super Tuned Drop Shot features Gamakatsu's Tournament Grade Wire (TGW), a slick Nano Alpha finish, and a G-Lock point with a slight upturn to drive home more fish.

Gamakatsu already makes some of the best drop shot hooks, this year they further tuned their finesse hooks

Its straight shank design keeps rigs perfectly aligned and ensures the bait stands out from the line for a clean, enticing presentation. The Super Tuned Drop Shot hook will be available in sizes: 2, 1, 1/0, 2/0.

Horizon Head SN: When conditions get ultra-tough, the Horizon Head SN offers a feather-light 1/96 oz weight and balanced design that keeps baits horizontal while delivering an extremely natural action.

Designed for the minnow craze

Outfitted with Nano Alpha coating and a premium Gamakatsu hook, it's purpose-built for subtle presentations in clear or pressured water. This weighted head is designed for the minnow craze and will be available in sizes: 2, 1, 1/0, 2/0, 3/0.

Small heads for finesse subtle presentations in pressured water

TG Trigger Nail Weight: The TG Trigger Nail Weight looks like a deadly arrowhead and is designed to refine the Neko rig experience with high-grade tungsten and a polished finish for smooth insertion into soft plastics.

Trigger Nail Weights made from tungsten

A double trigger wire keeper compresses on entry and locks in place, preventing the weight from backing out on casts or during the fight. Each weight is stamped for quick ID, making tackle changes faster and more organized. These purpose built nail weights will be available in 1/16, 3/32, 1/8 ounces.

Our Quick Take: Gamakatsu's ICAST 2025 showcase highlights the brand's continued commitment to refining finesse fishing tools while also solving practical on-the-water challenges. From refined drop shot hooks to next-level Neko weights and new weighted jigheads, these introductions bring both subtle improvements and major advancements to staple techniques. We are interested to see how these new products impact presentations, strikes, and hookup ratios. Bring on the field tests.
