Introduction: What better way to transition from one theme to the next than to preview a series of products that skirts both our "What the Finesse" theme and "Creature Feature"? Back at ICAST 2011, we met Derek Carr, founder of Evolve baits. He shared with us the product he had ready to display but hinted that there was more in the works. Finally, the product is ready to launch and we’re here to share with you Evolve’s next generation of soft plastics.

Along with their soft bait announcement, Evolve is also releasing a new soft bodied frog in two sizes.

VibraGrub : The VibraGrub is a four inch bait that can best be described as a double sided soft plastic reaper. The difference here is the bait is molded in such a fashion that each side is wavy, not flat. The purpose here is to provide an uneven surface that will undulate during retrieve to give the bait the appearance that is it swimming in the water. The target technique for this bait? Any moving situation. Use it as a trailer or fish it as the primary bait, the VibraGrub can do both. It is currently available only in a four inch size and in packs of six.

HelgraShad : The HelgraShad is Evolve's catch all bait mimicking what they estimate to be the most common forage for hungry fish - hellgrammite and small baitfish. It is both a finesse and power fishing bait versatile enough to be rigged and fished in both situations. It features a slit belly to conceal your hook, a segmented body, and a tail that's designed to sway at the slightest bit of current or twitch of your rod. The HelgraShad is a four and a half inch bait and retails in packs of six.

Shot Goby-Leech : The Shot Goby-Leech is another combo bait intended to mimic both a leech and goby. It is, in effect, a pint sized version of the HelgraShad only with soft plastic ribs running the entire length of its body. Its primary purpose is to serve as a finesse bait option. It is a two and a half inch bait and comes six per pack.

Kompak Craw : Of course, it's difficult to dive into the soft bait market these days and be considered a serious player without some type of creature or craw bait. Evolve's Kompak Craw is their foray into this segment of the soft bait market and is built to compliment many presentations not the least of which is punching. Given its tight, compact design (hence the name), the Kompak Craw is ideally suited for this technique. It is a three inch bait and comes six per pack.

Fluid Worm : Last but not least in Evolve's soft plastic debut is their finesse worm, the Fluid Worm. This is a five and three quarter inch bait with a very thin, streamlined profile and very subtle ribs along its body. It is intended to be fished in any number of different finesse applications including shakey head, split shot, and wacky rigging. It will be sold in packs of 8.

Conclusion: All Evolve soft plastic baits feature their proprietary Evolve Rx scent injected into the baits. They will be available at authorized dealers throughout the nation this spring and will feature one flat price across their lineup - $5.99.
