Storage Review

Plano EDGE - The Freedom to Create Unique Storage Solutions for Every Angler (continued)

The Master Terminal is my favorite application specific box in the entire EDGE lineup. This box is extremely well-designed and features a combination of lift out trays that were created for weights, hooks, swivels, and any other hard to manage small elements. The weight containers are individually sealed and feature high-density foam inserts to securely hold bullet and barrel weights so they don't rattle around. The other removable boxes feature their own clear lids for easy tackle identification, and even have their own dividers which help eliminate contamination. I found this extremely useful when storing tiny hooks and tungsten drop shot weights.

The EDGE Master Box makes organizing small pieces of terminal tackle easy, and I was surprised how much tackle I could efficiently store in such a small area. An added benefit of the highly configurable design is that anglers are able to identify and draw the hooks and weights they need faster, which is especially important during tournaments when every second counts.

These boxes take drying and rust prevention seriously with Rustrictor technology molded right into the frame, vented dividers, and WaterWick divider with a reusable moisture-wicking packet

When it comes to hardbaits the EDGE 3700 and 3600 Standard (STD) boxes are the most similar in design to traditional boxes, and feature three horizontal fixed dividers and adjustable vertical dividers. The dividers are pre-cut and vented for better airflow and the Water Wick divider provides additional protection with a water absorbing desiccant insert.

One of the most innovative EDGE boxes is the JIG/Bladed Jig Specialty box which uses fingers to tame up to 70 jigs

Plano could have stopped with the Master and Standard EDGE boxes but they also designed some interesting new boxes specifically created to store items like oddly shaped crankbaits, jigs, and bladed jigs. The EDGE Jig/Bladed Jig Box features uniquely designed arms that hold jigheads firmly in place. Though it may look like a mess of blades and skirts in this box the design does a great job securing and organizing these baits, and because the arm bars are adjustable I found it possible to offset them far enough to even leave trailers on bladed jigs. This enables you to strategize in advance and have your pre-prepped arsenal rigged and ready to go. This compact box can hold up to 70 jigs and I found that even when fully loaded this box enabled jigs to dry quicker than standard boxes, and there was a lot less tangling or damage to skirts.

The EDGE crankbait boxes feature silicon pegs that hold crankbaits and keeps them from scratching each other and the hooks from tangling up. This is a good box for valuable cranks, jerkbaits, and small glides

While I primarily used the standard EDGE box for storing hardbaits Plano has also designed a new crankbait box that completely does away with dividers and instead makes use of silicon fingers that holds baits securely. There is both a small box and large box designed to stow  crankbaits, jerkbaits, and small swimbaits of varying length and width. I was able to hold more baits in the standard box but liked the extra protection that these crankbait boxes provide. These are a good option for more expensive hardbaits, or when draw speed is a priority. The only thing that I didn't like about the silicon implemntation is that if the crankbaits are too wide in diameter the fingers would apply enough counter pressure to push them upwards so that they would make contact with the lid.

The 3700 Deep Box is deep enough to store full-sized swimbaits

Rounding out the EDGE Series is the 3700 Deep Box which is the largest box in the lineup and features a 3.25" depth that enables anglers to store larger items including hard and soft bodied swimbaits. Anglers can create 4 to 32 storage compartments with the included dividers and I found myself using none of the dividers with this box to maximize storage.

With all the EDGE boxes the more you use them the more you realize that while they make for excellent tackle boxes there are many other non-fishing related items that could benefit from the security and organization these boxes offer. I've started using them to store frequently used small tools as an example.

I removed all the dividers to maximize swimbait storage real-estate

Price and Applications: There is a EDGE box for just about every application. The boxes that I covered in this article are my favorite options but there are also taller 7.28" high boxes designed specifically for holding plastics in their original bags and another designed specifically for holding spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. The team at Plano definitely did their homework when they designed the series and in many ways they over-engineered these boxes to not just perform but to last as well.

The EDGE boxed are built tough and can withstand a lot of pressure and impact. They still do get hot, just like traditional boxes in extreme sun and heat, so be sure to keep them shaded or risk over-heating and warping and ballooning hardbaits

The EDGE boxes feature an extremely durable reinforced base and lid design that efficiently distributes weight and protects the boxes from impact. I was able to stand on the boxes, submerge them, and even drop them from the height of 4 feet with little more than cosmetic damage.

The EDGE boxes are designed to be stacked and the built in label area on the boxes makes it quick and easy to identify contents
