ICAST Coverage Day 1 (Reels) - Better, Lighter, Faster, Cheaper (continued)

Pflueger
- Patriarch: Each year we are amazed with what we see in the Pflueger booth
at ICAST. Their reels since the first introduction of the President baitcast and
spinning reels have taken off on the right course and the first baitcast reel we
would like to highlight is the Patriarch.

Introducing the high-end Pflueger
Patriarch
The Patriarch looks amazing! This reel pays great
attention to the details and design of each and every part from the handle to
the spool and throughout the entire body of the reel. This reel features 10
double-shielded stainless steel ball bearings, one-way clutch instant
anti-reverse bearing, Ultimate Brake System which combines centrifugal and
magnetic brake cast controls, a titanium-plated side plates, titanium line
guide, machined, ported, and double anodized aluminum spool, carbon fiber
washers, lightweight aluminum frame with aluminum handle side plate and palm
side, dual soft-touch knobs, and it comes with a neoprene reel cover/bag.

Stunning details all around

Asaro baitcast: Here's another nice
offering from Pflueger. The Asaro, a low profile baitcast reel, features seven
double-shielded stainless steel bearings, one-way clutch instant anti-reverse
bearing, a patented six-pin adjustable centrifugal brake system, machined,
ported, and anodized aluminum spool, and much more. The Asaro is available in
two models, one with a wide spool and one with a standard spool, retailing at
$119.

standard and wide models

Supreme MGXT Spinning: Moving onto the
spinning reels we have a few offerings but would like to mentioned ones that
stood out the most. Last year Pflueger introduced the Supreme spinning that was
magnesium based but this year they have the Supreme MGXT. The Supreme MGXT is a
lightweight magnesium body and rotor system featuring nine stainless steel ball
bearings, one-way clutch instant anti-reverse bearing, heat resistant carbon
washer, double anodized machined aluminum spool that's ported, aluminum side
plate, Sure-Click bail, large stainless steel bail wire, and a neoprene reel
cover that can be used to protect the reel when it is still mounted on the rod
during transportation. There are four models in this series ranging from 25 to
40. Retail price for the Supreme MGXT will $130.

It comes with a reel bag that can
be used while the reel is mounted on the rod
Asaro spinning: With the Asaro low profile
baitcast we have the Asaro spinning reel. This amazing spinning reel features a
lot of goodies such as eight stainless steel ball bearings, corrosion resistant
stainless steel main shaft and components, anodized aluminum spool with titanium
spool lip, Sure-Click bail system, and much more. Though all the design features
you see here are on the higher end reels, the Asaro spinning only retails for
$50. How they do it? Well, instead of a metal frame they went with a graphite
body and rotor. This not only reduced the cost but also reduced the overall
weight of the reel. Now you have a great value reel that sports many of the
high-end features.
