Ready to Take Your Fishing to the Edge?

Date: 7/3/13
Tackle type: Rods
Manufacturer: Edge Fishing Rods by North Fork Composites
Reviewer: Cal

Introduction: Earlier this year, we visited with Gary Loomis and his staff up at North Fork Composites in Washington State to get a first hand look at what was on the design board and their assembly line. That's right, in case you missed it, Gary Loomis is back and he's not just building blanks anymore - he's building rods. Here is an exclusive first hand look at the finished product. Introducing Edge Fishing Rod's new lineup for bass fishing.

We gave you an inside look at the factory in January, and now their rods are finally ready.

The Spec's: Edge Rods is naturally using blanks wrapped by North Fork Composites. Their bass rods are made from a mixture of their HM and IM graphites. All casting rods feature spiral wound Fuji K-Series SiC guides with titanium frames. The spinning rods feature black nickel guides by REC. Reel seats are also a mixture of different designs and sources. You'll just have to scroll down and see for yourself.

One series of rods covering five categories with at least three different handle designs.

MagBass 705-1: When we visited with the Edge Rods team at their factory earlier this year, every now and then we'd hear reference to "The One". We dismissed it figuring it was the nickname they gave to an exceptional prototype specimen or something. It wasn't until we began transcribing our notes that we realized to what they were referring. Apparently, the team at Edge Rods has been paying very close attention to our site and "The One" was code-speak for their all purpose model, the 705-1 - a 7'-0" medium heavy bass rod patterned after the baseline sticks in our "Search for One."

The stick they're nicknaming "The One", the MagBass 705-1, is Edge Rod's all purpose contender.

While it will obviously take a trip out on the water to see what this stick is about, so far the numbers look promising. The most intriguing characteristic of this rod is its offset reel seat reminiscent of the Weibe seats used on the original G.Loomis bass rods. Edge Rod's "The One" candidate sells for $475.

The offset reel seat is back!

Edge Rods are proudly made in the USA.

Crankbait Rods: From Edge Rod's all purpose model, we move into their crankbait series. There are three rods in this series spanning the power range from medium through heavy. Each is made from a moderately tapered IM graphite blank. The two seven foot (7'-0") models feature the same off set reel seat as the 705-1, while the one 8'-0", heavy powered model features a triggerless reel seat. Price range on these models are from $405 - $415.

Edge Rod's casting models will be spiral wound ...

... and feature guides by Fuji.
