Action: The tail kick of the Weedslinger is extraordinary. I wasn't quite prepared for what this bait had to offer after tying it on because quite frankly, I was numb to all the baits of similar design, but once I dropped the bait in the water to check out its action and I saw how easily the tail fluttered as I dragged the bait back and forth in the water I was immediately enthused. Even on a straight descent, the tail flutters around madly.
Featuring a now common split belly design to conceal the hook.
Fall Rate: Speaking of which, the Weedslinger gets down and it gets down in a hurry. I couldn't guesstimate the exact rate since during the time we were fishing it, the water at our favorite haunts was far from clear, but similar to how I mentioned in a couple of other reviews to basically consider the bait a jig, well, the weedslinger falls in this category easily.

But also a
very
interesting
slit on the
top to
conceal the
hook point.
Application: This bait holds really true to its name in that it is a breeze to fish in and around weeds of just about any kind save for the very fine hair algae you can find in the California Delta. It cuts through everything else rather easily though and is great hopped on the bottom or swum through the weeds.

Black Dog Bait Company's take on the Paddletail
features a fin on top for added measure.
Features:
While this bait features the familiar slit on the bottom to facilitate weedless rigging while at the same time concealing the hook's shank, rather unique to this bait is the channel on top of the body to conceal the hook's point. Also, as mentioned earlier, the bait's weight is completely concealed within the head. One negative? At least one of our bait's line through port was not clear and required the use of some heavy, stiff, fluorocarbon line to get through. There was no way to rig this particular bait, even after clearing it with the 20lb Fluorocarbon, with superline as the line was just too soft to make it through the hole.

The Weedslinger features a very soft, flexible plastic.

Conclusion: The Weedslinger from Black Dog Bait Company is a bit deceiving. It doesn't look like much in the package, but once you tie it on and toss it around in the water, it screams of fish catching potential. Unfortunately, this bait came to us late in our 2008 review cycle and we've only made it on the water with this bait a few times. Each time, we came up fishless not just for the Weedslinger, but for the entire boat for the entire day, so judge it not by our inability to hook up but rather, the wonderful potential we see in this bait particularly around weeds, as its name suggests.
