Rod Review

Molix Brings Italian Style to the Rod Market With the Fioretto FSC-66M (continued)

Features: Quality features abound with all of the Fioretto rods. Fuji's top notch K frames with SiC inserts allows for smooth line flow, while an ACS reel seat securely locks your favorite reel in place. Other nice little tidbits can be found here and there, like gold trim rings, a dash of carbon-fiber accenting, and a butt cap that adds to a nicely executed overall package. Unfortunately (for some, anyway) there is no hook keeper to be found.

Detailing like this gives the rod an elegant quality. Here it reads “the essence of Italian style” between the split foam grips.

Design/Ergonomics: The only thing I'd change about the FSC-66M is the length. I'm a tall guy and really prefer rods that are seven feet and above. Even for tip-down techniques like ripping and topwater I'll always opt for the longer lengths. Despite this, the rest of the rod is sized correctly and is very comfortable. I've certainly seen negative remarks from anglers regarding the comfort of the Fuji ACS reel seats, but I personally love them.

Even more eye candy.....

Balance and weight are huge selling points in my eyes when shopping for a new rod, and the Molix doesn't disappoint me in the least. Although the overall weight is not the lowest to be had, it balances wonderfully in hand and thus feels wonderful to fish with! This rod matches up great to any lightweight reel out there.

Above the reel seat it's a smooth transition into the foregrip. This is extremely pleasant to hold and does away with unsightly and uncomfortable exposed seat threads.

The Fuji ACS reel seat feels great and exposes a small portion of the blank.

Application: This is a rod that's quite versatile in its abilities. It's adept at fishing smaller jigs and worms, but because of the forgiving demeanor of the blank, it's also quite happy throwing blades, topwaters, jerkbaits, and shallow or lip-less cranks around cover. The overall length may hold it back a bit when it comes to long distance or deep-water applications, but at short to medium ranges this is an excellent tool to have in your arsenal. Need a rod for fishing docks? This is a killer choice.

There is some flake in the glossy finish found from the first guide to the tip.

Pluses and Minuses:

Plus

Minus
+ Simplistic and beautiful - Wish it were slightly longer
+ Quality components and workmanship - Limited number of rods in the Fioretto lineup
+ A joy to cast and fish - Good rod but will soon be discontinued, hopefully the replacement is as good or better
+ Great balance
+ Versatile

Beautiful Northern California weather, a great rod, and a chunky largemouth!

Conclusion: After reading this review, you may be surprised at my plethora of positive remarks regarding the Molix Fioretto FSC-66M. Molix did a seriously good job with this rod, and hopefully the same quality and feel possessed by this stick carries over into the rest of the very limited lineup. I'm quite excited to see what Molix has in store for the future, and I hope to see an expanded family of rods in the coming days!
