River2Sea
USA: Remember the
review on the Stand’n Yabbie?
That soft bait was quite good already but there were things that were missing.
Well, River2Sea USA answers by introducing the Super Yabbie, a new soft bait
that has it all. First the Super Yabbie now has a weed-guard that’ll make this
lure much more effective around high vegetation waters. The new lure now stands
up better thanks to the weight at the tail and air pockets in the claws. That’ll
ensure the Super Yabbie is always in the correct position to attract fish.

Another one of our
negatives of the Stand’n Yabbie was the inability to use the soft plastic with
other jigheads. Again the River2Sea team comes back with a reusable jighead with
barb feature on the Super Yabbie. This allows anglers to either use a different
type of jighead or replace the plastic body after it has been damage. Speaking
of damage, the Super Yabbie is made of Thermo Plastic Rubber (TPR) that’s much
more durable than the Stand’n Yabbie and should perform with outstanding
results. We can’t wait to get this lure in the water and we’ll soon provide a
full in-depth review on this new super bait. Currently the Super Yabbie comes in
one size – ¾ ounce, five colors, and each pack comes with two fully rigged and
ready to fish lures.

Just this past December
River2Sea USA reintroduced the Bully Wa Croaker 65 frog lure. This new frog has
the improvements that eliminate the issues many other frogs on the market have.
To start off the Bully Wa incorporates a bead on the belly of the frog to
minimize the amount of water that enters the hollow body but still allow air to
escape as the bass strikes the lure so you can ensure a good hookset. These
frogs are also designed so that it’s much easier to walk than traditional frogs
on the market. This allows anglers to fish the lure in open water, retrieving it
in a side to side walking motion or in heavy cover with its weedless design. The
Bully Wa Croakers are now available throughout the stores and comes in eight
different patterns and features an extremely sharp and durable Gamakatsu EWG
hook.

Wired baits such as
spinnerbaits and buzzbaits are all pretty much similar, but once a while we run
into a lure that’s new and exciting that deserves some attention. That’s the
case with the Crystal Buzz by River2Sea USA. What’s unique about this lure is
that it is made from Bismuth-Tin alloy encased with polycarbonate. Polycarbonate
is a thermoplastic polyester that’s widely used in today’s products such as in
prescription lenses, household goods, and much more. This material is
temperature, scratch, and impact resistant, which make a great feature for a
lure. The polycarbonate actually encases the head of the buzzbait which will
make it much more durable than traditional heads. Aside from that unique feature
the Crystal Buzz also has a flat head design that makes it one of the easiest
and fastest lures to get on plain, a spring device that assist the blades to
spin freely at all times to create all sorts of commotion, and a coned
ball-bearing weed-guard right in front of the blades. The Crystal Buzz weighs in
at ½ ounce and comes in six exciting patterns.

Len Vinci showed us the exciting
new hooks from Gamakatsu
Gamakatsu: Terminal
tackle just doesn't get the respect it deserves. In fact it is quite difficult
to innovate when it comes to hooks, but Gamakatsu manages to do exactly that
season after season. At the show Len Vinci showed us two solutions in particular
that really caught attention. The first of which was the new "live bait with
ring" hooks. These hooks come pre rigged with a solid ring for better
presentation of baits. The concept is also applied to some of their new lure
hooks as well. Len told us in testing the hooks have been used while targeting
stripers. This allows the bait to appear more natural, and to prove the ring can
stand up to the punishment anglers have landed double digit stripers with these
size 2 hooks!

Also interesting
was the new SkipGap hooks.
The new Skip
Gap Hook really holds plastics in their place. Many soft plastics will slide off
of the offset or simply come off when thrown hard against the water in an
attempt to skip it under a dock. This is especially true on really hot days when
the plastic can get extra soft. This unique patent pending hook is designed to
hold soft plastics firmly in place so that no matter how hard you throw it, the
plastic bait stays put. Unlike other hooks that have attempted to do the same
thing, there is no special rigging required for this hook. Simply Texas rig it
like any other wide gap style hook and it’s ready to go. The wide gap is built
to handle thicker baits like tubes, but is also ideal for stick type baits and
regular soft plastic worms. Sizes: 1/0 – 5/0.
