Introduction:
Manufacturers offering a series or two or three of bass fishing rods are almost a dime a dozen here at ICAST. Those truly in the business of making tools to help us catch fish know there are far greater quarry than those green fish with extra large mouths. St. Croix, one of the premier rod manufacturers on the planet knows this and this year the manufacturer is flexing their rod making expertise by addressing the enthusiast market in an often neglected and overlooked segment of the angling public - the panfisherman.

St. Croix adds another story to their Legend Elite.

Legend Elite Panfish: That's right, St. Croix is not only offering a brand new sub series to help anglers target these colorful little sunfish, they are doing so in their flagship brand, Legend Elite! This new sub-series consists of five spinning rods to cover a variety of techniques all targeting your favorite sunfish.

This time around, it's for the panfish.

The first two sticks are both ultra-light rods measuring five feet, six inches and six feet respectively. Both the LEP56ULF and LEP60ULF feature fast tapers and are built with the slip bobber fisherman in mind.

Are you ready for a high end panfish series?

Next are the LEP64LXF and the LEP70LXF - both light powered rods with extra fast tapers for those pan fishermen adept at casting, drifting, or trolling light jigs dressed with soft plastics for their favorite quarry.

There will be 5 models in this series ranging from Ultra-Light to Light.

Lastly, we have the LEP69LF, a cranking and trolling rod built for small cranks that many crappie fisherman throw in search of trophy catches. This rod is specifically designed with a power and taper that will not rip the baits free from a crappie's paper-thin mouth.

Each will feature a Kigan keeper.

Each stick in the series is made from St. Croix's a blank rolled with SCV graphite rolled on an IPC mandrel using all of the traditional blank technology found in all of their Legend Elite rods.

And the ever elegant Fuji AT series of guides with titanium frames and Torzite inserts.

Jeff Schluter, VP of Sales and Marketing at St. Croix rods shared with us the company's excitement at finally finding a proper application for Fuji's ever so elegant AT series guides. Not only does the minimal nature of this guide set compliment the light and ultra-light powered rods in this new series, but St. Croix is taking it a step further by leveraging the titanium framed, Torzite insert version of the AT guides for the ultimate in light weight componentry. Retail for the Legend Elite Panfish series rods is set for between $360 - $380.

Legend Glass also receives a new team member.

Legend Glass LGS72MM: Continuing on the success of their award winning Legend Glass series, St. Croix introduced the first spinning rod in this series answering the call from anglers wanting a glass stick that can handle light crankbaits and light line. The LGS72MM took the Best Freshwater Fishing Rod honors at ICAST 2018 further demonstrating the manufacturer just knows how to get it right.

This time on the spinning side.

The LGS72MM is made from the same linear S-glass material as the other Legend Glass rods right out of the company's Wisconsin manufacturing facility. Guides on this stick are Fuji K-Series guides with Alconite inserts and it comes with Kigan hook-keeper. All Legend Glass rods come with a 15 year transferable warranty. Retail on the LGS72MM is set for $260.

The LGS72MM will feature Alconite guides...

... and a Kigan hook keeper.

Paul Schluter, CEO, showing off St. Croix's clean sweep at ICAST 2018 : Best Freshwater Rod - Legend Glass Spinning ; Best Saltwater Rod - Mojo Yak ; Best Fly Rod - Mojo Trout.

Conclusion: With the plethora of "me-too" and "look-at-me" fishing rods out there today, it's refreshing when a manufacturer dedicated to quality and performance receives notoriety. There is perhaps, no more prestigious an honor than to sweep all three ICAST Show categories for standalone fishing rods and that is exactly what St. Croix did this year with their Legend Glass Spinning rod (Best Freshwater Rod), Mojo Yak (Best Saltwater Rod), and Mojo Trout (Best Fly Rod). These awards are voted upon by media members and retailers, so there is a good degree of validation. Just the same, you never really know what's going to happen when matters such as this are put to a vote, but if it's built by St. Croix, you can be sure you're getting a quality built and quality performing fishing rod.
