We didn't limit our picks simply to just the latest offerings, instead we opened the voting among our editorial staff allowing a vote for any product as long as it is still currently in production. Kicking off our picks this season are reels in the freshwater category.

Meet Ms. Casey,  yes... the holidays come early here at TackleTour

Freshwater Casting Reel: (Shimano Curado E) The Curado is the top selling baitcaster in the Shimano lineup and redesigning this reel was a major undertaking for the company. When a mail in rebate was offered on the previous Curado D version savvy anglers knew that a new iteration would soon be introduced. Many guessed that new reel would be smaller, lighter, and more expensive.

A green baitcaster can only mean one thing...

Shimano didn't disappoint when they introduced the E version which was significantly smaller, lighter, more ergonomic, and yet only retailed at $179.99. The Curado E was also followed by the equally impressive new Citica E which offered the same basic ergonomics, just with a little less of the refinement.

....the Curado is back and bigger and... um... I mean smaller than ever before

The Curado E is so good that many anglers have set aside their previous generation higher end models in favor of fishing the new green machine. This season if your looking for a great baitcasting reel at a great price the Shimano Curado E series has a range of gear ratios making this an outstanding choice for a wide variety of applications. The Curado E is available at Tackle Warehouse.

Ms. Casey loves spinning reels and the Symetre suits her just fine

Freshwater Spinning Reel: (Shimano Symetre FJ) With many anglers looking for a great value this holiday season the Shimano Symetre FJ is our pick for an exceptionally well balanced spinning reel at the 100 dollar price point.

For less than a hundred dollars the Symetre is a great value and a great gift for that deserving angler on your list

Like the Curado redesign the Symetre underwent major changes in the FJ version and became so good that it beats reel's in Shimano's own lineup that cost over twice as much from just two seasons ago. The Symetre's 4BB + 1 RB and Propulsion Line Management System: Propulsion Spool Lip, SR One-Piece Bail Wire, Power Roller III, Redesigned Bail Trip, S-Arm Cam all add up to one exceptionally refined reel for only 100 dollars. The Symetre comes in a wide range of sizes from the 500 ultralight to the saltwater capable 4000 size. The Shimano Symetre is available at Performance Tackle.

With reels in every size from 50 to 4000 the Symetre FJ is a good series for everything from trout to inshore applications
