Born from Fishing Nests – The Hybrid Performance
Styled Costa Antille (continued)

Price
and Applications: For fishing or general use when
enjoying the outdoors the Antille, or slightly rounder Pargo frames, are both
excellent options for hybrid style frames that can be used across a wide range
of activities. The fact that these lightweight frames can be purchased with
Costa’s very high quality 580G lenses makes them even more attractive, and my
advice on lens selection would be to find the lens that best suits your unique
location, lifestyle, and angling applications. Though light conditions are
always changing selecting the right lens combination can help give you the edge
for your application and targeted species.

Notice the white specs? I did
notice the more porous material picked up dust and grime a bit more than Costa's
smooth frames but they were also easy to clean
When it comes to fishing offshore or in open water
the blue lenses, like the ones on our Antille test pair, are the best choice as
they help shield you from harsh sun and give you excellent visibility in deeper
water. If you are looking for enhanced vision when primarily fishing inshore the
Green Mirror lenses are the better option as they have a copper base and can
help improve contrast when sight fishing in the sun. This is particularly useful
when sight fishing on the flats where the sun is fully open and having the
ability to better discern shadows and contrast in the shallows can help maximize
casts.

Lens selection is important and if
I could only have one 580G lens it would be grey silver or grey lenses which are
well suited for a wide range of conditions
If I could only have one pair of Costa glasses,
they would be equipped with the company’s Grey or Grey Silver Mirror lenses,
which are designed to be a good choice for everyday activities both on and off
the water. With a gray base these lenses also reduce glare but do so in a wide
range of light conditions including cloudy and overcast days, and as a bonus
these lenses are anti-fatigue which makes them great for driving and simply
walking around town. These are the lenses that I recommend for most bass
anglers, as they need to contend with a variety of light and water type
conditions, and varying amounts of shore cover.

Though the 580G Blue Mirror lenses
are great for open water they are decent for freshwater and even some lower
light conditions
If you are fishing in lower light conditions, or
constantly targeting fish in tight rivers and streams the copper silver lenses
are another good choice as they are extremely versatile, provide greater light
transmission, and very good for sight fishing in lower light. These would be my
recommendation for traditional anglers that frequently target trout or
smallmouth in rivers and fly fishermen.

This frame lens combo was great
for offshore fishing and still very good for freshwater applications, but if I
could only have one pair I'd still recommend the grey lenses
Depending on which lenses you select the price of
the Antille may vary slightly but they top out right around $226 dollars with
most 580G lenses. I feel like the Antille is priced reasonably as these frames
are $20 dollars cheaper than the Spearo, and $40 dollars cheaper than the Pro
Series Fantail Pro. This is a reasonable price to pay for high quality optics,
and while they may not necessarily feel as high-end as some other Costas with
their matte more raw-looking frames anglers can feel very good about selecting a
pair of optics that has helped breathe new life into once discarded fishing
nets.

Conclusion:
When I first learned about Costa’s efforts with the original Untangled
Collection I was excited to see an optics company as large as Costa being on the
forefront of an effort to not only recycle and re-use end of life fishing nets
but create an entire collection around them. Companies like Costa are a key part
of the solution as they provide a new life for recycled nets and enables the
team at Bureo to continue to expand their operations which recovers millions of
pounds of discarded materials and help keep this plastic pollution out of the
water. Costa could have quite easily created versions of their existing frames
with this material but instead they created a brand-new collection, one that is
designed to make optimal use of this material, and rather than hide from the
fact they are constructed from recycled materials they put NetPlus on full
display by highlighting the natural beauty of the material by creating frames
that are both feature-rich and exhibit their very own style and character.

It is no surprise why Costa
continues to be such a popular brand among anglers and with the new Untangled
2.0 Antille frames anglers get an edge while also feeling good that they are
buying a product that is beneficial for the environment
While I am still partial to the styling of the
Costa Spearo there is much to like about the Antille including the lightweight
and comfortable frames, large 580G glass, vented nosepads, and simply feeling
good about sporting a pair of optics that is constructed from recycled
materials. The hybrid performance frame style of the Antille really makes this
an excellent choice for anglers that desire large lenses that provide
excellent coverage in a wide array of conditions, both on and off the water.
Quality optics like the Antille really are unsung heroes in our fishing arsenal,
they protect us, help make us more effective anglers, and in the case of the
Antille even help repurpose plastic waste. This is a win, win, win and a pair of
optics that we can really get behind.
