Bass-a-Thon 2009
Coverage Part 2 – A look at some upcoming new rods
(continued)

Wade
Rods: Some of our
readers may already be familiar with Wade Rods. What they may not realize is
that owner, Wade Cunningham, is the man behind Seeker. Having started Seeker
back in 1981, Wade later sold the company eventually getting back into the
business by working for Shikari Rods in the mid 1990s. In 1996, he began Wade
Rods. Earlier this decade, Pure Fishing courted him to work in their rod
division, but things didn't quite work out, so he left after only a short time.
Just this past year, he began to focus again on his own company slowly building
rods he felt the American fishing public would appreciate.

Have you heard of Wade rods?
At the Bass-a-Thon he
introduced his new rods which feature a custom look and feel including uniquely
shaped grips for each rod to match the intended application. The rods looked
cleanly designed and felt light in hand. Wade carefully selects the components
on all the rods and in this particular line makes use of American Tackle ring
lock guides with duralite hard aluminum oxide ring inserts.

The company is owned by Wade
Cunningham who has years of expertise in blank and rod design and this is their
season in eight years they are introducing new bass rods
The Pro-Magic Series is
designed to offer exceptional strength, sensitivity and hook setting power.
There are finely tuned actions and tapers the rods make use of Fuji ECS trigger
seats with an exposed blank and matte silver fittings on spinning models.

The Pro-Magic rods make use of
intermediate modulus graphite
The Pro-Magic Series rods
are very reasonably priced from 150-225 dollars depending on the rod model. Each
and every rod is manufactured in the U.S. in Huntington Beach where Wade can
fully control the quality and all rods carry a 3 year warranty.

All of the application specific
rods make use of different styled grips, a very custom approach
While this first
introduction is being made now the company is already nearing production of
their high end “Power Feather” series which will feature higher modulus blanks.
These premium rods will debut at next year’s Fred Hall show and retail around
the 300 dollar price point.
