Rod Review

How Does a Budget, Value, Rod Dubbed Offshore Dominate the Search for One? (continued)

Power: This rod's length gives it an unfair advantage over a lot of shorter sticks when it comes to power. You get a lot of leverage with that 7'6" length, but the rod has the power to back it up as well. This stick makes a nice "whoosh" sound too during sweeping hooksets but be careful not to set on a weed. I did that and almost took out Zander's knee!

Fig 1 : The chart above illustrates the deflection characteristics of our Ark Rods
TS76MHFC Offshore Special against the averages of our general purpose rods separated by power. As you can see, the Offshore Special charts out just a hair heavier than average for our medium heavy power curve

Design & Ergonomics: For a 7'-6" stick, the Offshore Special feels pretty light in hand and when compared against our historical data of well over one hundred "medium heavy" powered sticks we've fished and tested in the past, it fairs pretty well in terms of balance too despite its length. The rod's almost monotone silver-grey color scheme is executed smartly giving the stick a nice, refined feel.

These guides (Fuji F-Ring) perform perfectly fine, but they just look clunky to me

The rod comes with a closed loop hook keeper

Price & Applications: Ark Rods once again delivers a solid stick for a value driven price. Their TS76MHFC Offshore Special retails for only $129.99 and is more than just a rod for offshore spots. If it's length doesn't bother you, this stick is very worthy of an all purpose, one stick to rule them all type of role as you can do practically anything with it save for finesse applications.

Looking for one stick to rule them all, and at a low price? The Offshore Special belongs in that conversation

Pluses and Minuses:

Plus

Minus
+ More versatile than its name will lead you to believe - The only minus I can think of is there are none with this rod. Maybe the guides, but it's price is reflective of the line of components. This stick is a solid choice
+ Good power
+ Good sensitivity
+ Priced right

Conclusion: There's usually something about a piece of tackle I can find to hone in on and comment or criticize. There are a handful of manufacturers who are maddened by this aspect of our reviews feeling we're being over critical. As a review site, that's kind of our job. There is only one little thing about Ark Rods's TS76MHFC Offshore Special that I find slightly disappointing and that's the choice in guides and it has nothing to do with performance, just their appearance. I find Fuji's new F-Guides a little thick and unrefined although they are a huge improvement over the old Hardloys.

If you're still on your search for just one casting rod to use on your bass fishing adventures, you really need to take a look at Ark Rods's TS76MHFC Offshore Special

Thing is, this is a $129.99 fishing rod, so I'm not expecting super high end guides. It's just the only thing I could find to comment upon. The guides fish fine, the rod performs very well, and there's absolutely no reason not to recommend this stick unless you have something against the manufacturer or Randall Tharp personally, don't like the color scheme, or think $129.99 is too little to spend on a fishing rod. Seriously, if you're still on your search for just one casting rod to use on your bass fishing adventures, you really need to take a look at Ark Rods's TS76MHFC Offshore Special.
