New from AFTCO for ICAST 2022 - Bibs, Bags, and Boardshorts

Date: 7/16/22
Tackle Type: Apparel
Manufacturer: AFTCO
Reviewer: Cal

Introduction:
Since their decision to venture into the freshwater market circa 2018, AFTCO has been steadily filling out their catalog with technical wear that's not only comfortable, but performs extremely well. Their sunshirts, in particular, have become a staple amongst TT Editors. At this year's ICAST, the brand had several introductions. Here are a few that caught our eye.

Tackle Bag 35: Over the last couple of years, AFTCO has begun offering backpacks, hydropacks, and other gear bags. Rounding out that collection this coming year will be the Tackle Bag 35 featuring two main compartments. On top is a general storage section, and at the back is a tray compartment large enough to hold four (4) 3500 sized utility boxes viewable through a clear panel. There are also two side pockets, each large enough to hold one 3500 sized utility box. The Tackle Bag 35 comes with a standard handle on top but also a detachable shoulder strop. The bag is finished in an attractive digital camo Retail will be $59.

Cocoboardies Boardshorts: One of the company's cornerstones is their commitment to conservation and the environment. Their new Cocoboardies board shorts reinforce this commitment made from a new Cocotex fabric derived from polyester material infused with activated charcoal from repurposed coconut husks. The end result is a product that is water repellent, resists odor and is quick to dry. The shorts feature a plier pocket, zippered back pocket, and a drawcord waist. There will be three colors in all and the shorts will retail for $69.

Women's Reaper Softshell: Perhaps one of the more successful lines of outerwear for AFTCO is their selection of Reaper jackets and tactical sweatshirts. They expand upon this line once more with a full front zipper softshell jacket designed for women. It is made with a 3 layer ripstop stretch outer layer (90% polyester, 10% spandex) and the signature hexatron tricot backer. The jacket features the Reaper face mask with laser cut vents, coated zipper hand pocket, and internal hem cord adjustment. It will be offered in a charcoal color and retail for $112.

Barricade Rain Suit - Green Acid Camo: AFTCO updates their popular Barricade Rain Suit with a new color, green acid camo. Featuring the same 3-layer construction, 20K waterproofing, and 15K breath ability, the Barricade Rain Suit will continue to be available in previous colors as well. The suit's jacket features a SpeedVent airflow hood and YKK AquaGuard zippers. The new color will be available this coming Fall, just in time for rainy season. The full suit retails for $478.

Our Quick Take: This year's introductions fill in some of the gaps (and there are not many) in the company's storage and apparel lineup. Long gone are the days when Aftco was only known for their saltwater offerings. The company continues to do good for the entire industry and continues their commitment to protect and conserve the environment, and anglers' rights, committing 10% of proceeds to directly support these initiatives. Family owned and in operation since 1958, we're glad they took that step nearly half a decade ago, to introduce themselves to the freshwater market.
