Introduction:
Ahi USA showcases a new line of diamond jigs at ICAST this year. This new bait has all the benefits of a standard diamond jig but with added enhancements designed to improve both performance and durability.

Introducing the new Ahi USA Jigs

Jigs: The new Ahi USA jigs may have a similar shape to traditional iron but look closer and the attention to detail is readily apparent. Ahi jigs make use of a thicker gauge loop at both ends for extra strength. The hook end has welded rings while the line end makes use of a high strength swivel.

Heavier gauge wire is used on this iron. The line side gets the swivel

Each jig is finished with a holographic design that is protected under a layer of clear coat. The Ahi jigs all have glow in the dark eyes and the new lures are available in 5 popular patterns, one of which is completely coated with a glow in the dark finish.

Glow in the dark eyes are on all of the jigs

The Ahi USA jigs come in a wide range of sizes including: 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14 ounces. The weight of the jig is clearly marked on the jig itself. Experienced anglers probably don't need the marking to tell which size the lure is but for those new to the game the size clearly labeled on the jig instantly takes out the guesswork.

Available now, the new Ahi USA jigs will retail from $5.99 to $11.99 depending on size. I've fished a lot of jigs and many look great, up until they spend their first few minutes jigged on the bottom and the hardware gets crushed or the finish is lost to abrasion with the rocky structure. Ahi's new jigs are designed to hold up to the abuse and I look forward to seeing how they hold up ocean floor.

Thanks Judy Chavez and Jason Morton for showing us the new products

Conclusion: Ahi USA and Promar had other exciting new items at ICAST but the jig is what really caught my attention. The new Ahi USA jigs up the ante in finish and provisions for durability. The holographic patterns look sharp, as do the glow in the dark eyes, but the best part is the heavier gauge wire used throughout the lure. If the action is as good as the jig looks on this jig it will surely become a new favorite within my arsenal for targeting rockfish and Albacore tuna.
