The Lab Tests: We RoD WRACKed the Falcon Deep Runner and found it tested out exactly where we would expect it would. This rod is slightly more robust than the average rod of the same length and specification. It exhibited the proper action to handle deep diving cranks with a tip that won’t put too much strain on your wrist when retrieving assertively.

In the lab we were also able to take a closer look at the build quality of the rod and found the attention to detail impeccable. The epoxy and threading on the rod is very clean and the union between the cork and Fuji reel seat is seamless. We are finding that the attention to detail on many mass produced rods is decent but the occasional extra helping of epoxy or sloppy threading is becoming more and more common, and while this doesn’t affect performance in any major way it is a concern when you’re shelling out over two hundred dollars for a rod. We were pleased to see that Falcon bucks this trend with outstanding build quality the “made in the USA” custom rod builder is known for.

Casting: When we talk about “parabolic” we are usually referring to the rod action while retrieving but when it comes to casting larger and heavier crankbaits a proper parabolic action can actually improve both casting feel and distance. When a tip is too light it can overly load or even break under the strain of casting heavier crankbaits. The Deep Runner gets it just right with a tip that can confidently handle 3/4oz. cranks and even the occasional 1oz. bait even though this is beyond the rod’s recommended specifications.
