Introduction:
Known primarily for their mid to high end product, for years, anglers have clamored for more price conscience reels from Daiwa Corporation. Recent introductions of the Lexa, original Tatula, and Exceler product lines have shown the company was listening. Today we look at a product that demonstrates not only have they been listening, but they've delivered - introducing the Revros spinning reel by Daiwa.

Introducing Daiwa's Revros 2500H.

Quality/Construction: The Revros is a solid if not a little unrefined spinning reel. It's finished with a modest metallic grey paint, but comes with a very attractive machined handle that collapses easily for storage. All tolerances for this reel are very good especially considering its price point. In fact, the only thing really giving it away as a more cost conscious product is the reel's overall weight.

The Revros is a very solid reel out of the box.

Performance: For our tests, I spooled the Revros with 8lb Berkley Iron Silk super-polymer line and mounted it to a Daiwa TDS 701 MXS spinning rod. Most of our tests were conducted on Lake Beryessa, California.

Spooled and ready to go with some Berkley Iron Silk line.

Retrieve: The Revros has a surprisingly smooth retrieve as you turn the handle to mesh its gears. I did not notice any unusual sounds, hiccups, or vibrations coming from the gears, rotor, or body of the reel making it very easy to concentrate on the task at hand - that is, waiting for any indications of a bite.

Fig 1. The Sweet Drag Performance chart above shows the consistency in drag performance of our Daiwa Revros 2500H.

Drag: Referencing our Sweet Drag chart above and the numbers in the matrix below, we can see the Revros's drag, while powerful at times, isn't the smoothest out there - especially as pressure endured. The slow start of the Revros's drag at the top end is likely due to the line stretching between the reel's drag and the pull of The Machine, but once engaged, you can see how erratic the drag performed.
