INNOVATION AWARD
Introduction: Baitsanity, once known primarily as a swimbait brand,
has rapidly evolved into a full-fledged tackle manufacturer, offering a diverse
lineup that includes swimbaits, soft-bodied swimbaits, traditional hardbaits,
and even rods. Their latest release in the Explorer series is a fresh take on
jerkbaits, featuring an innovative interchangeable weight system. This design
allows anglers to effortlessly adjust the lure's behavior—transforming it from
floating to fast-sinking - and customize the amount of rattle sound, all within
seconds.

Baitsanity has
expanded their
tackle offerings
once again. The
Explorer Jerkbait
BCS 120 looks like a
traditional reaction
bait but looks can
be deceiving
Impressions:
Baitsanity has
established itself
as an innovator in
the bait market.
While the company
initially built its
reputation on big
swimbaits, it has
since evolved into a
surprisingly
well-rounded tackle
brand. Over the past
two seasons,
Baitsanity has
expanded into new
segments,
introducing
traditional
hardbaits, tungsten
terminal tackle, and
even its own line of
signature rods.

Looking ahead,
Baitsanity is set to
make a significant
push into BFS next
season. One thing
I’ve learned about
Fahad, Baitsanity’s
Owner and Lead
Designer, and his
international team,
is that they never
stop creating.
Whether it’s
designing,
developing, or
testing, there’s
always a pipeline of
innovative concepts
and products in
development or
undergoing beta
testing. This
ensures a constant
flow of new tackle
for anglers each
season.

The packaging
explains the ability
to change depths in
seconds with an
integrated tuning
system
I first encountered
prototypes of the
Baitsanity Explorer
Jerkbait two seasons
ago. Fahad’s vision
was clear: to design
a customizable
jerkbait capable of
adapting to
different depths and
situations. After
exploring various
designs, he realized
that Baitsanity’s
proven HatchMatch
connection system -
originally developed
for swimbaits -
could be adapted for
jerkbaits. By
transitioning from
tail attachments to
interchangeable
modules, Baitsanity
created a
quick-change system
called the Bait
Connect System (BCS)
that allows anglers
to modify not only
the jerkbait’s sink
rate but also its
action and sound.

The key to this
system are
C-Connector modules
Real World Tests:
I’ve spent the past
season and a half
fishing the
Baitsanity Jerkbait
BCS 120, targeting
both largemouth and
striped bass in the
California Delta and
surrounding lakes. I
also tested the bait
in several upstate
New York fisheries,
including Lake
Champlain.
Throughout my
experience, I fished
the BCS 120 with a
variety of Sunline
and Berkley
monofilament and
fluorocarbon lines,
using both
baitcasting and
spinning setups.

Each bait comes with
four interchangeable
C-Connectors that
vary in weight and
sound
To
gain deeper insights
into the design and
performance of the
bait, I had the
opportunity to fish
alongside Fahad on
my boat and home
water. During our
time on the water,
Fahad shared details
about the bait's
design philosophy
and demonstrated his
personal approach to
fishing the BCS 120.
